Hey,
I just got a new alternator and I want to put my old pulley on the new alternator but I can't get either of them off? What gives? Any tips?

Thanks.

Impact wrench. Will the auto parts store do it for you? You can try the "poor mans impact". With alt on a bench or something, put a long boxed end wrench on the nut, using another large wrench NOT A HAMMER, hit the first wrench. The key is to swing it as fast as possible. You want a rapid shock, not an earthquake, hence no hammer. 3 or 4 hits should suffice. How about one of those strap wrenches? I have yet to acquire one so I don't know how much torque they support.

Thanks guys. I took the alternators to a shop and it took the guy about 30 seconds to switch the pulleys. And of course I tipped him.
