I can vouch for Alex with the shift boot. I just used my original boot and console cover without any problems, and it looked fine.
Also, I did not have a resonator pipe handy when I did mine. I just sawz-all'ed the resonator off and drove open y-pipe to my local exhaust shop to fab up a mid-pipe. They even put two resonators in, one in front and one behind the shift box. It got rid of all that Yamaha rasp that I previously had. It didn't cost too much money either.
I'm interested in that welding trick though.

That sounds exactly like what I need. I can't stand any raspyness in exhaust, so I do believe I'll have to try that trick. Does it make it sound any different aside from rasp?

With Magnaflow mufflers and the double resonators, it sounds a lot like stock, but a bit louder.
Since then I've moved those mufflers to my blue 95 (with stock single resonator), because I have some much louder mufflers that will better suit the style of my black car. My black '89 has a bit too much of a "monster" attitude for a smooth, refined exhaust sound.

I think that would depend on how much your junkyard is going to charge you for the parts you take...
If I was to guess, somewhere between $5 and $500.
Sorry, don't mean to sound like an ass, but would it not be easier and more accurate to phone them and ask?

i have a slightly more bizzar situation
i have a 94 MTX with cables. homemade. hole drilled forward of the rodpack hole. tough to explain i will get pics. im looking to put the rods back in eventially after i get the motor up to *****.
weird thing is i think i have an ATX center console somone put in. my shifter boot is glued in and there is no pannel around the boot that unsnaps, the colsole is all one piece. there is no large compartment foward of the shifter like my 92mtx, just a small ashtray. there is also a small indentation, a pencil holder to the right of the shifter. and a cupholder behind the shifter.

I've finally tried driving a Gen I over the last few days, and I think I might actually prefer the cable shifter. I'm definitely a fan of the straighter/simpler exhaust too. The Gen I also has 1 or 2 spare cable shifters (brand new) in the trunk. Is there any reason not to change go backwards other than shifting feel? Has anyone else done this?
Maybe my rod shifter is not working very well, it feels a lot more notchy and finicky than the cable. The cable shifter just glides into place for me.

after my rod shifter install, found i didn't need the "92+" shift boot,(tite to the drivers side, but, far from fifth) its a "looks" thing...BTW remove the heat sheild, and the ENTIRE cable system bracketry, mounted to the firewall and floor boardand replace the isulation on the floor board between the shifter and console, it makes ALOT of noise dissapear, takes about 3 hrs with the wrong tools...lol (dead battery on a sawsall, and bad bearings on a grinder) also depends on the rod shifter you have, his was square, mine was oval...photos, thanks for the help though!!!

Where can I find a rod linkage set up? I'm a lttle upset I used to have a sho in high school then got rid of it and low and behold 5 years later I have another 1990 
but what I'm upset about is shoshop.com used to be the one stop shop for everything and anything for any sho. What happened to them? Is there any other site that's somewhat close to what shoshop used to be? I wanna find the rod linkage and a short shifter.

Shoshop had mixed reviews later in the game, right before closing up. They've shifted their business, as far as I know, to BMW stuff.
www.shosource.com, www.nesho.com and www.shonut.com are both excellent sources for parts.
The rod shifter, you'll have to source used. I'm not sure if either of those websites above sell used rod shifters, but it's worth a try, as well as a "WTB" post here, searching the for sale ads, and checking your local junkyards.

yea ive been lookin all over and cant find a set up, my cables are SLOPPY AS ****!!!! lol i mesure 11 inches of throw from first to second haha it sucks and my right elbow has been pounded into the seat and center console long enough lol thanks for the info tho believe me i wont give up till i get what i want

It is a great upgrade, I remember way back when I had my 91, it was one of the first upgrades I did. Made a huge difference!
When you do finally find a rod shifter, make sure you get the bushing kits from either SHOnut or SHOsource and rebuild the shifter.

Ok, new here but I love this idea, however how do I get clearer pictures? It says to click on the image to see full picture but it they are all still really blurry.

You can search the internet for taurus sho rod shifter conversions on google images and the images look clearer but, if you try to enlarge them, it links to the fuzzy ones.
