So I decided to do this since my oxygen sensors were throwing codes and the CEL light would come on and off when I was driving on the freeway and I was getting poor mileage. I later found out that the stockers were still in @ 120K.
The sensors I used were BOSCH Part #15716.

Tools: I used a 3/8 ratchet and an oxygen sensor attachment, this made it so much easier, but I guess you could use an open end wrench.

I went for the rear one first which surprisingly the easiest. The way I did this was i layed on top of the engine and stuck my arm into this opening

right on top of the ford sign on the intake. I had a long sleeved sweater so my arm didnt get scratched up. Im not sure if bigger armed people can do this or not but I unplugged nothing and if you need more room you probably should move some of the things in the way.
First you should unplug the sensor, put your arm through the space described in the picture above and feel the wire and plug, you can kinda see it too if you hold the hoses out the way. Find where the end of the plug is (opposite of the senor) and push it to the right so you can see it and better unplug it.

this view is from the side, the left side of the picture is going towards the front of the car. Here is a picture of the same thing but backed up some to show you where

You can also fit your hand in there to further aid you. My disconnecting tab was broken :frown: so I had to use one of those really small screwdriver, the flat end to push the tab in.
After its disconnected, use the oxygen sensor tool through the space on the top of the intake to loosen it and then finally unscrew it and put in the new one.
Now I jacked one side up and put a jackstand, unplug the wires and unscrew the sensor. This was most difficult because my ratchet kept getting in the way of the battery wires and pieces of the car, so i used a 3" extension and positioned it so that I could apply force comfortably. Replace with new sensor and youre done!

The front one is next to the oil filter as you can see

I had always figured it was impossible from the top. I usually get the rear one from under the car, squeeze your arms up there and in a few minutes your done.

I found it comical that you thought the rear one was easiest...some people have found it impossible to replace that one.

Good job though, now you have a happy SHO.

Danz13: So did the O2 replacement(s) cure your CEL?? Better mileage now?

I just picked up my '93 ATX a few weeks ago. Unfortunately, to my dismay, I think it gets worse gas mileage than my Z28!! I've been tracking it, and it's about 17-20mpg city. For some (odd) reason, I was under the interpretation that it would get 25+mpg city.
(FWIW, my Z28 gets about 23-24mpg city, and almost 29-30 on the highway......from a 300RWHP V8!!)

Just a tip from a noob who just attempted this task. The front one is pretty easy but the rear one is in an awkward position. And if it won't budge then try to run the car for a couple minutes and try it again, it worked for me!! haha
