I just bought one :sun:, and I was wondering over the period of group buys about how many have been made?

Can you tell me what the Quaife is? I thought it was something totally different and never got a definite answer back on what it is and used for.

Thanks.

First and foremost, why is this in the v8 section?

There is an open thread, right now, discussing quaifes, even how many their are.

I believe area 91 started it, you could search his screen name or just search quaife, alot of people have already chimed in there.

EDIT: Look, i even searched for you! what a guy! Quaife discussion

As for what a quaife is, i believe its a torque biasing differential, it replaces the crappy open differential that plague these cars, probably the best mod you can do, did mention most expensive too?

Quaifes were sold for years before any group buys. There's probably a thousand or so of them out there.

EDIT: Thread moved out of the V8 section. :shakehead

The quaife is a torque biasing, limited slip differential, it will transfer more power to the wheel with the most traction, I believe it can do something like 3 times the torque, of the wheel that is slipping, can be transmitted to the other.

Wow, brett, that is great. You didn't answer my question, I saw that thread, and did ya notice how no one said how many there were in existence? So could you answer my question please?

Edit: Sorry to make more work for you mods, I saw the discussion part, but nothing about v8, and I didn't think it should go in the general engine / driveline section, as it isn't really about modding anything.

Actually, the original SHO Quaife batch was something of a 'group buy', Vadim didn't place the order until he had something like 20 (18?) paid buyers. He had my money for close to a year before the diff hit the States.

Please note this is not a Vadim Fedorovsky bash, he was clear about the process if optimistic on the timeline, and I understood and was prepared to be tolerant of the difficulties inherent in doing serious parts development with minimal capital. Almost everything I bought from him is still in use, in one form or another, on the white car ten years later. I haven't had occasion to deal with his subsequent BMW or Merc tuning efforts; I've stayed rather conservative on the M5.

A thousand Quaifes sounds high to me, I was going to say something a bit over half that number, but you might be right. In any case I suspect the ongoing strength of the market for the product has always been a bit of a surprise to the vendors (witness the current Autotech/SHO Nut efforts.)

500-1000 is a fair number of them. I didn't know it was that many. I am glad I got one of the 'last' ones though. I actually emailed quaife, and they said they would quote me a price for a 10 person group buy, but it doesn't seem like that will happen again anytime soon.
