Remove :

Airbag , steering wheel , plastic shroud , and you should have access to your multi-switch.

You probably broke the linkage at the motor. I would replace that before the MFS. Fortunately, IMHO the motor is easier to replace than the MFS (no need to remove the ignition cylinder and all that tomfoolery). I'll come back later to give you directions; my wife is beckoning! (apparently the trash needs taken out :theyareontome:)

I never removed the airbag or wheel when changing the MFS before, just the shroud. :shrug:

I agree with Hawk though, it's probably got more to do with the motor. It's really not that hard to strip out the nubs that the wiper arms attach to. Heard about it happening to lots of folks who did just what you did.

Don't remove airbag. If you do, disconnect the battery first.

Don't remove steering wheel.

DO REMOVE(in order):
Ignition cylinder (turn to "on", push the pin from the bottom, remove)
Tilt-wheel lever (just twists out)
Steering column shroud (3? screws)
Disconnect MFS
Unscrew and remove MFS.

I've never taken mine off, that is one job that I would never do myself. The airbag system scares me for some reason. I'll be screwed if my clockspring ever goes south. :rofl:

I know it won't help, but honestly, don't be. Ford has gone through quite a bit of trouble to make sure that the air bag doesn't randomly go off (have you ever heard of one randomly exploding? Didn't think so...). I don't even bother disconnecting the battery when I disconnect mine. Do I point it at my face when I disconnect it? No. some precautions must be taken. But there's no need to go overboard.

If I'm in the area, I'll fix your clockspring for you, Beth. I happen to have experience doing those! :rofl:

I put another wiper motor from advanced and still not working.i am really getting erked with my wipers its not the switch or the motor unless i got two bad motors in a row... which would suck. does anyone have a way i can test to see of the motors good? other wise im gonna take it to one of my local mechanics and see what he can do but ive tested the wires in the the two plugs and i have one wire in each plug that has power to it idk if theres more than one that is supposed to have power.

I went without wipers for 2 months cause the retaining pins came off inside the motor compartment.

It really sucked.

Lots of Rain X and a long squeegee helped me make it......
