Well today my SHO (the 92) decided after work it didn't want to start. I went to start it and all the power just shut off. Lights got real dim, etc. It had done this like twice before real sparatically. I always attributed it to the alarm goofing up. Well this time after messing with it for a good 15 minutes, I decided to try hitting the battery cables. That's when I burned my hand on the + terminal.

So I got the car jumped, started right up, and drove it home. The indiglo guages were flicking, so I turned those off, along with my radar, foglights, and radio. Even with those items on I was showing a good charge on my volt guage.

I think the problem is the + battery cable. I got home and turned the car off and it would not restart, same problem so I unhooked it for the night as to not have my SHO start on fire while I'm sleeping or fry anything else.

Anyhow I plan on driving an hour to Andy's (93redatx) house tommorow to replace the cable. Is this a bad idea?

Any other ideas or suggestions on what the problem could be?

I'd say you need a new battery....

If the positive were grounding out, there would be rapid discharge and I'm sure you would be doing some welding(or catching something on fire).

it just may be the cable, wrap it in electrical tape where the break is... well you gotta find it first...

I would be very cautious about driving the vehicle if the terminal is getting "red hot". Battery, cable, or otherwise with that much heat build up in the circuit you are begging for an electrical fire. The damage from that or a battery rupture could be really, really bad. I would do what you need to do to get the swap done at your place.
