Hey everyone, I am new to the sho and most of the time when i start it it makes a horrible squeeling noise, sometimes it stays for a little bit and i have to drive through the neighborhood with my car squeeling very loud, kinda embarrassing. I think it might just be the serpentine belt, but do you know of anything else it could be?

Does anyone know if that noise would be coming from the ac and alternator belt or the waterpump and powersteering belt seeing as it is a mtx 3.0

More than likely it's the alternator belt which will be the front one. There's an allen key (5mm?? totally guessing, it's been awhile) bolt that you can turn to tighten it up. There's another one toward the back of the engine for the rear belt. Since you're in IL, you might want to shoot it with some PB Blaster first just so it's loosened up a bit. Try not to get the PB on the belt though as it will make the belt slip more.

Don't try to tighten up the adjuster with the allen key without FIRST loosening the nut on the idler pulley.

tensioner?

Mines was sqealling awfully! I tried tightening it; not much change! I just constantly sprayed the nut on that tensioner pulley before every startup, and it finally went away after 2 good weeks. I used **** to spray directly on the nut. It comes and goes here and there, but only very briefly, and long in between time. Good enough for me!!!!!

What exactly do I spray on that nut...... where exactly is it located... I watched the alternator yesterday when my friend started up my car and the noise was definately coming from that area/location... you think it will go away just from spraying the nut before start up????? Ill definately try it but what kind of spray and where???

First off, where the heck is Elburn, IL? :laugh_ti: You know about shocago.com? The site was hacked, so folk have been posting in the Chicago section on this forum lately; but, you may know about all of this since I rarely log on there.

As for the spray, I just went to Murrays or Autozone and bought the cheaper multipurpose or lubrication spray can! I'd spray directly on the nut, using the plastic extensioner that comes with the can. I'd sometimes spray before start, during running, and/or after turning car off. The noise will come and go, but persistence pretty much got rid of the squeal!!!:thumb: Don't be surprised if you go threw a whole can of the spray!:oogle:

To anyone whoever reads this with the same problem, I went through one can of PB blaster and have not heard the squeeling noise since then. Thanks for all of the help, saved myself $20.

I think he must be spraying the pulley nut and not the tensioner nut! I assume this must be a pulley bearing going bad and spraying the nut somehow got down to the bearing?

Mine does a similar noise, but only with the AC on and only at certain RPMs. I'm thinking the AC clutch pulley bearing?
