help with radio install

I recently purchased a aftermarket headunit. now comes the part that is going to give me the most trouble. Does anyone have any tips/instructions for wiring the headunit up. the speakers are uncessary b/c i have rca outputs that will be running to an amp. thanks

You should be able to get adaptor connectors that will make it plug and pray fast.

You can buy the wiring harness for your car at any local car audio shop. Simple as connecting the color coded wires, and yes it will power everything. Only wires you will have to run to hook up the amp is power, ground, RCA's and remote turn on wires.....

Thank you both very much. I was unsure b/c I learned that the acutall stock head unit is in the trunk when i was first looking when i bought the car. I was just making sure. Thanks again

You are correct in the fact that it is in the trunk and being so, the wiring harness is about 12' long and has to run from there to the front. The hurdle you will run into is where to mount the radio because they do not make a SHO dash kit.

Just noticed that he was asking about a gen 3, hence it is in the Gen 3 general discussion section. Damn I hate working nights... Sorry to hear that man, you're gonna keep the radio in the trunk? They don't make a dash kit for the Gen 3's because of the auto climate control.

Why do I need the defroster extension??

Not sure if you need that part but you do need the full 15 foot wiring harness. I think that it may be because the same plug also controls part of the heating hence the wonderful reason we can't remove the factory unit. The radio and heat/AC controls are on the same circuit board.

I could just use part FDK2B, b/c it has the amp jumper to by pass the amp and the power harness, I would have to buy the antenna adapter. but other than that it should be all I need. Let me know if i am going the wrong way. much obliged.

That won't do what you need. In order to get your speaker connections, you either have to get them at the amp or the speakers themselves. Go with the FD20 and you won't go wrong. I'm not just guessing or searching on this one. I've been installing just shy of 16 years and own an installation business on the side for 8 as well. If you need anything else I have ICQ, Yahoo, and AIM to help you out.

I wish I had seen this post about 2 months ago. I ran all the wires myself and soldered them one by one, since the wiring in the trunk looked like the previous owner had just started cutting wires at will.

Anyway... the only thing I havent gotten to work is the radio antenna connection. Does anyone know if I can run a length of TV cable and solder the "inside" and "outside to their appropriate terminals on a antenna wire connector for the cd player?

Also... I can send you a few pics of where I mounted the cd player. It is in the same spot as the link on cardomain.com, but looks a bit different.

You can use coaxial cable and you can also buy screw on ends for it if you look hard enough to find them.
