I have just finished installing a Fidanza flywheel, a South Bend Clutch Inc. TZ (kelvar) disk, pressure plate, a SHONUT ceramic throw out bearing and Synchromesh transmission fluid.

The clutch has very little travel before engaging and the transmission will not go into reverse without grinding. I can get it into reverse if I put it into 2nd, release the clutch a little then shift it into reverse.

The automatic clutch adjustment seems to have worked ok as there is no slack in the cable.

The flywheel bolts are torqued to 64 lb ft and the pressure plate bolts are torqued to 24 lb ft.

HELP. I am at my wits end and do not know what direction to go.

Thanks

Sprague

Relax. It's normal. Reverse is not synchronized. You MUST put it into a forward gear and then shift into reverse.

Yup, you always gotta go into a foward gear. All my friends shos will grind if they dont go into a foward gear. I have the original manual for my car, im pretty sure it even says it in there.

Yes, I have driven it from the shop to home and the forward gears are fine. I know that the disk is in with the correct side to the engine.

From the replies, things are normal.

The reverse gear in the SHO is somewhat of a bear.
Put the trannie in third gear first to slow down the assembly and then try reverse and see if it helps.
It certainly won't hurt.

How light is the pedal feel of that clutch? Any chatter or grabbing? Or just smooth, buttery takeup?
The pedel feel is pretty close to stock and does not chatter or grab. Takeup is very smooth. Other than the reverse issue, and that is described as normal, things could not be better.

Thanks to all for the helpful replies. :D
