ok heres my problem... i HAVE searched all the forums... no one gives perffect info...... heres what happened.... i was driveing on the freeway... noticed a slight Very Random miss kinda like it shuts off all together.... well shortly after getting off the freeway i came to a stop sign and the tach jumped all over the place and the car died on the side of the road and wouldnt start again at all.... soo the car got impounded... i get it outta impound and i replace the DIS ignition modual.... no spark.... as everyone has stated on here my tach reads 200-500 when cranking... BUT i pull started the car... had it in 2nd gear and the tach wasnt moveing but out of the blue the tach moved and it started.. but if i shut it off it wont start again.... now from what i hear the cam sensor runs the tach.... so id guess its the cam sensor... BUT! if the cam sensor Only runs the tach then the car should still run since the Crank sensor (cps?) tells witch coil to fire when...... so would it be the cam sensor (ever tho from what i understand it should still run with out it.) or is it the crank sensor? the car has 129k miles on it and i havent been able to do the 120k stuff yet... if anyone could help me out here that would be awsome as i cannot aford to get the car impounded again and im also moveing to texas in a week or so.... so having the car in running order would be nice.

Thankx in advance

Back in Michigan ... again.
What do your codes say?

The cam sensor does NOT run the tach. The crank sensor does, and from what you've described that sound like your problem.

i have a very expensive code reader... it works soooo great.

it's a paperclip by the way!

but anyways, im almost garenteeing that the CID (cam sensor), runs the tach for sure. that doesnt mean that the CPS may not also, but i dont know. when i first bought my car, it was needing maintenance. i pulled the codes and got codes 212 and 214 (among other like the O2 sensors), ang i needed to do valve cover gaskets. so the car began stalling sometimes, and being hard to start, and eventually showed me the tach reading 0 rpm's while running. so i got the CID sensore and did the valve cover gaskets, and all was good/perfect for about 2-3 months and then it started stalling again, and hard to start. that time i got code 211 (CPS shot). and never had the tach read 0 then.

The cam sensor does not run the tach, neither does the crank sensor.

The DIS module runs the tach. The tach signal is a composite of the cam and crank sensor signals plus the three coil firing signals. ALL must be resent to get a valid tach.

Pull the codes with the paperclip. If you get PIP errors, you're looking at the crank sensor. Sounds pretty likely.

Cam sensor failures do not cause a no-spark condition.

it is the crank sensor just had the exact problems with my car and replaced the cps and it runs like a champ again.
p.s. it went out because the water pump had a slight leak coming from it fripping onto the sensor.
