Hey all, I just wanted to introduce myself.

I've just bought a 1991 black/black mtx SHO +. She has rust, terribly faded paint, a loose strut, no antenna, a dented rim, no spare, no door key, leaking exhaust... And I absolutely love her :)

I intend to restore her to the task of daily driver. With 102k miles, if I'm prepared to swear a lot along the way, I think this can work.

I used to own a Gen III so I'm aware of the headaches, but despite all the problems that car gave me, I never could get over my infatuation with these vehicles, and I'm extremely glad to FINALLY own another.

So, that being said, "Hello" :)

We paid $950, but will probably end up putting in another 1.5k to get it up to *****.

We have one nice reliable car and our "spare" Passport was on its last legs. We figured it would be cheaper to just buy a <2k car and throw a grand or so into it each year to keep it running than to go out and have 3-4k in payments each year for a newer vehicle.

I had to pass up a mint '95 atx with only 45,000 miles earlier this year because it wasn't "reliable enough" according to the mrs., so this was my chance to get a car I wanted.

All in all I'm pretty happy. At least when something breaks on this I can see it as a blessing at best, and a Pyrrhic victory at worst, as something better is going in. You can't say that about every $1000 car.

Thanks to everyone for the warm welcome :)

Cool. I was just curious if you were anywhere near my brother, he closed on a house in Suffield last week.

Good luck with the plus. :burnout:

I don't have too much for pics right now... Just the ones that the seller provided:

If she's a plus, as the seller claimed, she has no wing, but then again she also has a rod shifter, so I guess it's possible she was a later-built one after the wings ran out.

That doesn't really matter to me as I prefer the clean look, and will take a rod shifter any day :)

Right now she's getting her suspension reworked and a catback installed to replace the decrepit exhaust. I've sent along an email to nesho to have the 60k done. After that's done, I'm hoping I can relax a bit.

no chrome window trim = no plus. someone could've added the hood and shifter, or it could've been one of the factory freaks built late and had leftover parts thrown on. either way, still quite sexy. welcome back.

Pop the seat bottom out of the back, and see if there isn't a build sheet there... been found under driver and passenger seats as well, sometimes on top of the fuel tank... you'd see it there.

Anyway, 91 Black+ was my first SHO.... much fun to be had! And that paint doesn't look that bad at all. Nice looking!

Well, wait until you see the more detailed pictures... The pain is faded bad in several spots, the angle just doesn't show it.

No chrome = no plus, eh? Ah well, I never bought these things for looks anyway

When I get some more detailed pictures I'll throw them up, if only to have some documentation if I ever decide to get her painted. I like the way she looks as is, as I think it gives a bit of personality to the car.

Well if your paint is doing what my 92 was I know exactally what's up. You can probally get it "fixed" but it would more than likley fade out again in a couple years. I kept mine going for a while until the rust ate it up, then I swapped the whole body with a clean one.. :)

Plenty of people / knowledge / support here to do it... you found the "right place" ;)

Welcome into the madness. Riddle me this, how can a 45k mile atx not be reliable? Oh well, at least you got something with a "wow" pedal ;)
