hi,
i drove from duluth to Mpls and 20 min into the drive the heat (all climate control), flashers, rear defrost, and turn signals. so everything on fuse 5. went out and I stopped and put a new fuse in. 10 min later again everything went out. stopped put another fuse in 10 min later everything went out. 3 hours and 15 min later really cold really snowy i am home for the weekend. Any ideas what is shorting out or making these fuses blow?

thanks

I suppose if we knew what year your car was we could look up the wire diagram in the "How do I" forum and figure out all the things on that ciruit.

Multi function switch, keyless entry module, Illuminated entry module, rear window deforst control, air bag diagnositc module, backup lamp switch, O2 sensors.

That's what's on the circuit. You just replaced a terribly difficult to remove starter, no? Any damage to the front O2 sensor wiring or the airbag sensor above/behind the radiator? Those things are in the general area of the starter, but you are now in search mode to find a short. The wiring diagrams are on this site, as Paul was trying to point out. Nothing else you can do but start searching for the short...

FWIW the Ford diagrams are much easier to comprehend, at least to me any way. Not near as cluttered. You can download a Ford Cd at www.fordcds.com.

would the blower motor for the heater going bad be a reason that these fuses blow? I looked under the car around the starter at the air bag sensor and the o2 sensor and they looked fine and then i started the car again and the climate control showed the temp that i had it set for but no fan noise or blowing. then it kicked in for 2 min. at most and the fuse blew. does this make sense for the part that is bad?
thanks

Fuse 5 does not control the blower motor. It does control the EATC. The blower motor is on a different fuse.

Here's a diagram with all the devices on fuse 5. You are going to have to disconnect each one, one at a time to see what the problem is. Better get a handfull of fuses.

Sorry to say but be prepared to spend a lot of money/time looking for this kind of problem. My car has been doing the same thing since this summer. I've had it into 3 mechanic's and still they can't find the problem.

Just as you, I can't drive my car in winter at all now because it's so cold here that when it rains my windows become so foggy that I can't see without opening the windows. I have no heat in my car so I'm sure you can imagine what it's like to drive down the street in the mist of winter snow and rain with the window's down. I also have no defrost at all. My blinkers don't work which has resulted in me being pulled over on countless times for failure to signal a turn.

Nevertheless, I graduated last week, so I no longer have a major need to drive this car anymore. Thus, I believe that it will be sitting the entire winter and possibily into the summer months until I start graduate school.

I have another mechanic who says he will look at it on Friday. I'll give him the diagrams and see what he can do. But, I'm starting to lose all hope in this SHO.

Best of luck
