Is there supposed to be a gasket that goes between the exhaust header into the ****** on the y-pipe on a Gen 2 ATX? There wasn't one on there when I took it off but the exhaust had been all screwed up so I doubt it was the first time the original y-pipe had been removed.
I found a tapered cone-style gasket that I can buy that looks like it found fit perfectly. It's slightly smaller than the ****** on the header and slides perfectly into the ****** of the y-pipe. My technician is saying I'm an idiot :snicker:(he's also my employee and a friend) for thinking it should have one. he says it should go directly metal on metal like all other Fords. But why would someone sell one if there isn't supposed to be one? :nut:
I'm attaching some pics for you to see but can someone confirm whether it should have this or not? On the pic of the y-pipe I placed the new gasket in question just to show you how it fits. On the pic of the exhaust header ******, does it look like there is a gasket there now that needs to be removed first? It looks all metal to me, and there's no separation or lip anywhere inside or outside of the ****** and I tried scraping & pounding on it but nothing gives. The technician said IF there is supposed to be one, that I need to remove the old one first as shown in that pic.. but I think he's drunk to think that's a gasket... that's just part of the header ****** right??

Thanks for your help!!

Use the gasket or your exhaust will leak and sound like ****.

That's what I thought but I was told not to. My tech told me I would need to get new longer bolts, the old bolts would not be long enough to attach the 2 ends so he says that's proof it isn't supposed to be there.

Then you have the wrong gasket. The bolts should fit with the gasket in between the two. It's called a Y-Pipe ****** Seal...RCM has it for 9 dollars as well.....

RCM Gaskets and Seals..

Nope there is no gasket between the exhaust manifold and y-pipe. That gasket you are using is the MTX y-pipe gasket. That goes between the y-pipe and catback.

Well considering the fact its been 10 years since taking one apart I think you can cut a guy some slack. Instead of rubbing their nose in like you would a dog that pooped on your carpet.

Ok girls, enough arguing.

As mentioned, there is no gasket between the exhaust manifold outlets and the bell flanges on the y-pipe.

The flat ****** gasket on an ATX that goes between the y-pipe and the catback is a Walker 31532.

I thought there was supposed to be one there (manifold->y pipe) as well but when I put it on I could easily tell that it did not fit right.
