i just bought an 89 SHO and it has everything i have always wanted.....except a moonroof. i dont like the "aftermarket" sunriif look and i want it to look as factory as possible so i found a guy that is parting out an 89 SHO and he said he would sell me all the sunroof parts. is this something that can be done or am i gettin into something not worth my time and headache? i do know a guy that has a shop that installs sunroofs but i havent gotten ahold of him yet. any opinions or comments would greaqtly beappreciated.

thanx

Cut the whole top of the donor off and weld it onto yours.

Otherwise, you will need to fabricate a complete drain pan and draining system under the OEM glass.

It's not what one might consider a completely "waterproof" seal. The stock set up has 4? drain lines that run under the sheetmetal/pillars and deposit the water to the ground from the moonroof framing. Sounds strange but that's the setup.

You could contact Webasto and ask if it's doable. It's their Starlight 4 model if I remember correctly.

I have done this before. You need the ENTIRE sunroof assy. from the doner car, infact get the whole roof. that way you will have everthing. Get the headliner too. Some sunroofs are welded in some are bolted in, eather way remove the whole roof assy. from the old top, use the old top as a template to cut the hole in your car. Take the glass, motor, and anything eles off to lighten the roof assy. up so you can easily hold the roof assy up to your roof. Weld the assy to you roof (you will mess the paint up on the top of your car where you weld). Run the drain tubes, the fronts go down the A pilers and the rears go into the trunk and exit behind the rear wheels. Run the wiring down the pass. side A piler and behind the glove box (dont forget to get the relay behind the glove box). Make the connections to the electrical system and check the motor, replace the glass and trim then enjoy.
