Hey Owners,

My girlfriend has a 2014 SHO that she is putting lots of miles on since we got it last December, like 150 to 200 miles a day.

She works non-stop, and is having difficulty getting the oil changed. I think oil changes are more important in these turboed engines than in regular engines, so I am going to change it out.

Probably Mobile 1, but I don't know what weight to put in there. 5w30? 10w40? And how much, 3 quarts or 5 quarts?

We got it used, so there is no owner's manual.

While I have your attention, is there any other issues with the 2014 SHO that I should look out for?

Change PTU at least every 30K
RDU at least every 60K
Coolant at least every other year
Drain and fill 5 quarts from the trans at least every other oil change.
You are correct, you’d be well served not to go over 3K on oil.

Welcome! Good on her for enjoying her SHO.

Her SHO takes 5W 30. Use a good synthetic oil that is rated for Turbo Direct Injected Gasoline Engines. Oil depends on your budget. Amsoil works great but can be spendy. I personally run Castrol Edge (in the gold bottle) with a Motorcraft Filter. Our SHO's take 6 quarts.

If she is driving alot of stop and go traffic all day I would suggest changing it 3k miles. If it is alot of freeway miles then 4K miles.

Another thing you will want to do service the power transfer unit (PTU). The fluid isn't lifetime and Ford now recommends service at every 30k miles.

Oil weight is on the filler cap but I can tell that it's 5w-30. Use the motorcraft oil filter FL500S.
You are right about these engines, I like to change my oil every 4 months regardless of mileage. I've tried a few oils but stick to Pennzoil ultra platinum 5w-30. Takes 5.5 quarts and fill the oil filter before you screw it on.

Next, find out if GF's car is a PP (performance package.) Look for axle code 2A on door jam sticker, Alcantara and leather steering wheel and no spare tire.

Finally, change all the fluids.

These cars are great just that maintenance is key!

It definitely had no spare tire. We found that out whenever a tire went out. I chalked that up to a used car dealer taking the spare and selling it. I'll have to look at the axle code to verify.

I tried talking her out of this car, saying it was going to be a lot of maintenance, but she loved it then and she still loves it now.

It sounds like I need to do more than just a basic oil change. I'm glad I came here and asked.

Sadly, she isn't even interested in the performance. She likes the fact that it's all black with a black interior, leather seats and navigation. That was all she wanted. lol Crazy, right?

PTU is rarely called the Power Takeoff Unit. Ford's nomenclature including the numerous replacement documentation refer to it as the Power Transfer Unit.

More like a transfer case, to transfer power to the rear drive (diff) unit (RDU) - I've heard both ways.

Ford way of saying "Transfer Case" Its basically the "transfer case" component in the AWD system.

Yes. This is AWD based on a FWD drivetrain architecture. So power predominantly to the the front and transferred to the rear. Look around the web for ptu failure and the cost. There are DIY drains for these posted around in this forum. It will make ongoing fluid changes much easier. This is a maintenance hog compared to a normal 2wd non turbo sedan. But it is much more enjoyable so that's the tradeoff.
