I would like to introduce myself. My name is Bill Strong and I am the owner of the Toyota MR2 Forum and a host of MR2 webpages. I am not a "Ricer".

I am working on a project car. A 1986 MR2. I have been looking into transplanting different engines into the car. I had looked at the Northstar, but it was just too darn big, various V6 engines, but these have been done by other MR2 owners, and then a 450hp Toyota 3SGTE 2 liter Turbo, but everyone is starting to do this. I am looking for a project that has not been done, a project that will give me torque and power, and a project that has that wow factor that only a V8 can offer in a small mid-engine car. I had no clue that the latest generation SHP used a V8! I was looking for info on the V6 when I found out.
What I would like to have is the mesurements of the block and transaxle. weight if anyone has it. This would be very helpful in my quest to build a V8 powered mid-engine sports car.

Thank you in advance.

Do you know a Randy Chase from San Diego?

Just curious...

Edited: I perused your site and see he's a moderator in part of the forum. Just checking...thanks.

Don't worry; we don't declare people ricers unless they really deserve it.

Yes I know Randy, I have actually met him in San Diego this past summer - I am originaly from San Diego... Mira Mesa to be exact

What I will be looking for is a front clip with computers, harness, transaxle, axles, and all of the other bits that I am probably throw away in the end... but it is nice to see how the original worked.

What is the going rate in us$$ for what I am looking for?

The weight does not seem that bad. Could make for some fun power oversteer

What I do need is the measurements from the V8 and transaxle. From the left to righ side and from the front to the rear.

Luckily I have a trunk behind the engine bay that can be used to house the engine if I need more room.

Yes, this should be pretty fun since even with stoc HP and torque this will be pretty quick with a body weight of only 2000 pounds. Plus being an automatic my wife can have something to drive when we have our rally events locally.

Bill,

I can't help you with the transaxle part, since mine is still attached to the car

But, I will take the measurements you asked for and post them here over the weekend.

V8 SHO motors are pretty rare and exotic things. My replacement came out of a roll-over and cost me $2400. (I'd sell ya my spare for much cheaper than that) New from Ford/Yamaha they run $10K.

Sounds like that MR2 is going to be a real fun car. And, it will sound sweet as well, if you uncork the exhaust as in: http://people.ne.mediaone.net/mholhut/hellgate.MPG

I'll get back to you on the dimensions...

Mike Holhut, I had not seen the "Teardown website" til today. Very informative and great pictures. I did not know you had replaced your engine.

Well,I'll tell you I think I did see that about Mike's cam problem somewhere in this or the other thread at V8SHO....after about a year and a half I forget who is losing what on these SHOs....mine is still totally kicking...and as I have said many times I don't think I will ever sell this car. It is an addiction...and I think these web sites fuel the fire. Just a bunch of fun.
