Gen III cam failure?? 98??

I was looking on the V8SHO.com sit and saw a bunch of posts for a cam failure problem. This really concerns me now as I'm looking at a used 98 with 64K on it.

How worried should I be?

From what I've heard, not as worried as they think you should be. According to v8sho.com's former webmaster, it's become a "cam survivor's support group." It's in this thread.

Get an extended warranty and don't worry about it. If you decide against the warranty...get the cams welded for $400-500.

Have to keep my fingers crossed on this issue. WARRANTY is the key and mine is good til 72000 and or 2004.

If you are worried about it, you can talk to Kirk (V8list.com) I believe he came up with the fix to remedy this problem.

Nick, you hit it right on the head. Im so sick of hearing CAM failure stuff that Im barely on V8SHO anymore.. There is no common denominator to the cam issue- we know its not
Year-temp-driving style- add on mods- and the myth from The SHO(JUNK) shop is that it will only affect 30 sets is as good as their service, parts or personalities. which means it could bite you or it might not. Like Mark said get an Extended ESP.
