Gen 1 Wheel Fitment Question

For those gen 1 owners out there who have been there & done that:

Soon, I'm going to be picking up some Team Dynamics Pro Racing 1's, in 17x7" for my 91. I think the intended tire, 235/45-17 may be too wide for the wheel, but it will be a smaller diameter than the limited availability 225/50-17. The car will have Eibachs & Tokicos as well.

What offset / backspacing will work best on the Gen 1 to clear as much as possible strut / wheel flare -wise with the 7" wheel? They are offered in 35mm, 40mm, 45mm.

I know Kev Schofield used to have the TD 17's on his Gen 1, with 245/45-17's, but it was a 7.5" wheel. Anyone remember his offset?

Check the sho shop website. I think they had a recommended wheel with the optimal offset listed. Their offset should get you closer to making a decision. I want to say 40, but I don't trust this one without checking.

Kev Schofield's rims are now on Jason Mansfield's 95MTX. So contact Mans442 about the backspacing.

Believe my TDs are 40m offset & don't you worry about rubbing wink I'm running shoshop linears/konis & 235/40/18 kumhos with no wheel rubbing @ all... could be wrong though because my fenders feel sort of like the previous owner may have shaved them. See sig for a pic.

I'm fairly sure stock OFFSET is 40mm.

You can go as wide as 255 on a 7" wide rim, but I doubt that will fit under a SHO. I'd get a 225/50 or 235/50.

I got back in touch with Kev & he 99% verified from memory that they were 45mm offset & required a lot of fender trimming to get them in there.

Going strictly by Yokohama's website, they recommend a 7.5" to 9" wheel for a 235/45-17 tire.

The 225/50-17 sounds good as far as I'm concerned, but the tire choice is severely limited. The only good one I like on tirerack.com is about $200 a tire.

As it is, the AWA told me tonight that there will be no funds available for the project after all.

I went through this last month with my 17". 235/45 will fit no problem with a 40 mm offset. If for some reason it won't fit you can always grind. I have 225/45/17 on 17x7.5 and have close to three fingers space. so the extra mm won't be a proble. (although I did grind my well's a tad last year. Go for it.

45mm offset would make the wheel farther away from the fender than 40mm. 5mm shouldn't cause rubbing.
