Well, I'm starting to get this gargle like noise from the back of the car and it differs with the rpm's too. The noise is coming from the drivers back side by the rear tire. Could this be a bad muffler? If so, I don't feel any power loss or anything and wouldn't think it's the muffler. Could this be fuel pump related or muffler? Thanks for any and all replies.

There is a possibility that your fuel pump is making that noise. It is located on the side that you described the noise is coming from. Check the codes and your fuel pressure. You can check the fuel pressure by the schrader valve on the fuel rail.

The pressure is right at 30psi when idling. I haven't checked the codes as it never gave my the "CE" light. The car has had it's maintnence done and runs strong accept for that annoying gargle from the rear. shrug

It might be the fuel return line check valve, which is orange and looks like a duck call. When it fails, it doesn't hold fuel pressure, and the gargling is gas going back into the tank.

I've have my book here that says the idle psi should be 28-33.

I noticed after I shut the car off that there was no pressure. Is this normal? Both SHO's do this, but only one gargles and the other idle is 32 psi.

If it's the fuel return line check valve, does it come with a new fuel pump?

Thanks for all the replies.

I've been hearing the same gargling noise on occasion for a couple of months now. It is infrequent and unpredictable. Maybe a Walbro 190 is next on the list. shrug

I have also heard the gurgling noise. I have no idea what it is. And when i slow to a stop there is a swishing noise from the rear, it sounds like the gas moving in the tank. It is a really annoying sound is there any way to fix that??

first of all SHO fuel pressure should be around 37-43(Scott correct me on this I know i'm off by a pound or two), but should be way above 30. second if it varies with rpm check the muffler. its easy crawl under it and hit it with the palm of your hand if it rattles your baffles are starting to break apart. if it is solid it could be the return line. also you should keep some fuel pressure in the line if it drops with the key off then you could have a defective check valve in the pump or a bad return line if i'm not mistaking i think its in the tank the vavle for the return line. please excuse the jumbled thoughts here i think faster than i type.

35-45 psig. The gargling noise from the tank, usually after a hot start, is from a worn fuel return line check valve (duck call is a good descritpion). It allows the hot fuel to vaporize downstream of the pressure regulator until a cooler batch of fuel reaches the return line. Usually not a driveability problem, but only a hot restart idle problem until the cooler fuel fromn the tank gets around the system.
