fuel pump and warning light come on

the fuel pump runs and the warning light come on by itself with the key out,it runs the pump and then shots down by iself. it was **** it about every 30 seconds for a hour now it stop. any help here?????

Are you saying the pump quits running and the engine dies? Or are you saying the engine quits and the pump is stopped? The fuel pump has an interlock that will shut it off withinabout 1.5 seconds if the engine stops turning. If you are seeing the CHECK ENGINE light the electronic engine control computer is trying to tell you what the problem is. You can retrieve the error codes with only a short jumper wire as explained in the link below. If your car is 1992 or later, you will be looking for the three-digit codes. Maybe he's trying to say that with the key out of the ignition, the fuel pump and the low fuel level indicator are being energized some how. Possibly a short somewhere

Well, he didn't specify WHICH warning light, so we really don't know.

As far as the fuel pump....again, very insufficient and unspecific info given.

If he is meaning that he has turned the ignition off and then removed the key (my 89's key will come out anytime) and the fuel pump is running, my first guess would be a relay in the CCRM is staying closed when it's supposed to be open (shorted contacts).

Arg, aren't they teaching English composition in school anymore?
