I'm having a local shop install new rear struts on my 93 ATX. ( I didnt have time to do it myself)
Anyway....
Just got a call from him and he says I need a new right front hub and bearing.....price $420.00
What do you guys think...is this something I could tackle myself on a Saturday?
What parts should I use?...Autozone?

damn....if it aint one thing it's another!

I just replaced this on Jerry M's 94 ATX on Saturday.

The part is available from NAPA for about $94 including state sales taxes. The same bearing and hub is used on any of the SLOs of similar vintage. The bearing, but not the hub, is available on the shelf at AutoZone.

You will need either access to a press to remove and replace the hub and bearing or will need to hire a shop to do it for you. FWIW, Harbor Freight has a 12 Ton shop press for only $89.... Jerry paid $20 for a shop to do it...

Inspect the rotor for abnormal wear, replace as needed.

the bearing itself is only $24.99 at autozone, Timken SET49 and often the hub as able to be reused. FWIW, the shop would be getting that hub and bearing set for $55 if they got it from Napa, that's their price to shops.

BCA (federal mogul) numbers are as follows:

Front Wheel Bearing: 513058
Front Hub Kit: 520100
(includes hub)
Rear Hub Assembly: 512107

that would be for the 93.... i think the 94-95 had different spindles.... could be wrong which might in fact use a different hub.... something to think about

those numbers should be good for your 93 atx though..... you shouldn't pay more than 40 bucks for the bearing... about 80 for the front hub kit... and maybe 80 for the rear as well.... something like that...

good luck
Louis
