I got a stock 1990 SHO, and went to the last track nite at my local track at Island Dragway (Great Meadows, NJ). The track was empty and I got about 12 passes. My best E/T along with what was my best mph was [email protected]. My 60' ft time for that timeslip was 2.40, which is pathetic. Besides that being my best e/t and trap for the nite, the remaining passes were all consistent of 15.5@91 with also 2.4';s 60 ft's. On one of these 15.5's, though, I had a 2.38 60 ft. which I find very strange because I should have gotten a lower e/t becausen in all my passes for the nite, my shifts were perfect, I banged 2nd and 3rd chirping both gears and never missed a shift...i also know that the gears weren't going to go in better than they were.

-The temperature was 37 degrees F, and I had my stock 15 inch tires on.
I'm extremely disappointed at my times because in all passes, I could not hook at the line. I'm thinking i need better tires and warmer weather because I was looking at 14.6-14.9 for my e/t because I know how to drive my car. But does anyone know if these two things are my main problem, tires and weather, or there something wrong with my car because my trap is also very low for stock???????????

-Thanks Mike

what type of maintance has been done to the car?

you said you are spinning to much... drop the revs....

launch at 2300-2500 no more.... feather the throttle till about 4500, by then tires should be catching. then go WOT.

also, try some better tires... sounds like the streets you have on there are crap....
if your able to chirp 3rd that easily...

I'm going to get the Nitto 555R's....and I just recently did the 60K maintence about two weeks prior going to the track , which includes brand new motorcraft wires and plugs, oil change, motorcraft fuel pump, oem valve cover gaskets and intake manifold gaskets.
Also, don't you think my trap is low....and did the cold weather have anything to do with it my horrible 60 fts.

Thanks
-Mike

Not average for a properly running SHO. My stock 89, with a myriad of maitenance issues, ran 15.4 @ 92-3 in July, 100+F, with a taped together cable shifter and blown mm's. Worst I ever ran in the 95 stock was a 15.3. Were I to run in that cool of weather, I would expect better, and certainly a better trap than 91.8. Look at your last 1/8th and let me know the time and speed. Since you do not have to shift at all during the last 1/8th (should be in 3rd by then) it is a very good indicator of performance of the engine.

This is my Best Time Slip (37 degrees)

(60 foot) 2.449

(330) 6.676

(1/8) 10.093

(1/8 MPH) 71.85

(1000) 13.031

(1/4) 15.497

(1/4 MPH) 91.68

So 5.4 seconds to go from 71.85 to 91.68 mph, a gain of 19.83mph. I will see if I have any timeslips form my NA cars and compare.

Yea please do that for me...for some reason I think my trap should of been a lot higher.....but obviously I know better tires will help my 60fts dramatically.

Thanks

Yes, I think the trap speed is low too. I ran a 15.9 at 91 saturday night. Yes that sucks for et. That was my first time at a drag strip ever. Also I only got one run. My 60 ft was 2.66. Also I can't shift as fast as I want because of a busted front motor mount. Your 1/8 mile et and trap are exactly the same as mine. Just some comparason info for you.
