The New Taurus' sales manager said today that they predict the sales volume mix to be:

SE, starting @ $25,995: 10% of total sales
SEL, @ $27,995: 50%
Limited, @ $31,995: 25%
SHO, @ $37,995: 15% (with more on launch then tapering down to 15%)

Unfortunetly, he didn't give any actual production numbers, but this is about what the mix should be.

Wow. The old show ended up being ~1%. That's a 15 fold increase. Obviously they are hoping the show goes mainstream.

Was it really only ~1%?

Well one possible explanation is that the Taurus once was the best selling car in America, so high volume. The new Taurus is in the full size class now, so it isn't so mainstream anymore, so already assumed to be a lower volume overall.

yeah, if you go to autozone.com and plug in a year for a taurus it'll show the approximate percentage of vehicles made that year with SHO motors. for example, in 1993 1% were MTXs and there were something like 4% ATXs of all Tauruses made that model year. and 1993 was the year when they pumped out a lot of SHOs compared to all other years.

Total production run of all Gen IIIs for the 4 years they were made was only about 20,000 units. The SHO has never been a big percentage of Taurus sales, but rather a highlight portion.
