Off topic...

I'm half-wondering/hoping the Raptor actually moves to the GT500 Predator engine now that Dodge dropped a freaking Hellcat into the direct competition to the Raptor. Although I personally still prefer the Ford over that Dodge, I'm mot sure how they will stay competitive in that space if they don't up the power output significantly.

The dodge could have 5k hp, that doesn't make it fast when they have high quality control issues and major reliability concerns. Have you seen the 5.0 whipping the hellcat like its a 4cylinder? When it comes down to it, the ecoboost will outperform in all but a straight line.

Also, I can’t imagine them using the GT500 motor. I think they are all hand built flat plane crank monsters. The Raptor production numbers are way too high.

Yeah, im pretty sure you're right. Was just an interesting thought experiment, lol. Maybe they'll engineer a Gen3 3.5 v6 eco that can at least close the gap on those power output numbers. A version closer to the Ford GT 3.5 maybe, lol.

But honestly, Hellcat sounds way way cooler.

Although I agree with 100% I think the average person in the market between the 2 may lean toward that Dodge simply for that ability to say they "got a hellcat" lol...

Maybe to some. I think a 10second truck for 50% less, sounds infinitely cooler than a flaming *****.

I think we are all on your side on that... but joe dirt sitting on his deck in front of his trailer is going to want to show off his ‘Merica truck with The Hellcat motor and 707 “can’t keep the tires from spinnin’” horsepower to all his tobacco spitting friends. And that’s the market Dodge has cornered.

left field, is there a thread or at least scuttlebutt about trying to fit the newer raptor 3.5 into our cars?
There isn't much fundamentally different with the block itself. Outside of a few bosses and mounting points for auxiliary stuff. Its the rotating assembly that's different, along with the heads. Which could all technically be switched to using your existing block. But the intake manifold sits differently on the heads as the valve covers are sandwiched between the heads and IM. Turbos are larger and have different manifolds as well. You COULD do this swap, but would need to make sure there's clearance for the turbos, that the hood will close over the larger IM and run new plumbing. Oh and the variable cam timing is on both the exhaust and intake cam as opposed to just the intake cam for our version. You'd have to integrate that PCM somehow. Not impossible, but costly. But then, you're still stuck with the 6F55 trans, a crappy transmission. The Raptor shines not only because of the motor, but the 10R80 trans is proving to be a good transmission.

Totally different block. Water pump is semi-internal on the SHO and external on the truck. You would have to move your right front suspension over a few inches to clear the engine........

GT500 does not have a flat plane crank. That is the voodoo in the GT350.

From the "insider" info I got about dodge years back, they typically do a cold pull and that's what they use as their HP ratings in this case 707hp. After they heatsoak it's closer to a 600 HP car. They did some dyno comparisons between mustang/camaro/challenger and saw that the Ford and Chev were consistent to what they claim from warm pull to heaksoak. The Hellcat however was a different story, once its heatsoaked the thing is a dog, there are people on the hellcat forums that complain about it. There is a reason most real world runs on the track with average people end up in mid/high 11's to low 12's.

I have actually seen this first hand. I went to a Dodge Dyno Day once and Hellcat and Demons were putting down numbers all over the map. None of the numbers where close to the claimed numbers either.
