I have been trying to fit a 2005 Mustang shift ****2601643988498080 1 to my 91' SHO. I remember seeing one added previously, but nothing showed up on my search. Can anyone help me with how to do this? I also have the problem of the shift boot breaking away from console(tabs all broken). Any ideas if this can be repaired? Thanks for the help.

In order to make it fit, you have to open up the whole on the **** a bit. I just used a file in order to do it. That way it will fit over the main part of the shift shaft.

As for the broken tabs, i epoxyd 4 small threaded rods to the bottom of the counsel. I then drilled 4 holes in the metal trim ring, and secured it with nuts.

He said that it will screw right on, you just have to make the hole on the botton of the new shift **** bigger so that it slides over the shaft.

Huh huh huh, I said shaft.

No, it won't fit by itself, you need to get the hole drilled bigger down to the threads.

How did you drill it? What size bit did you use? Do I have to drill out the threads and re-tap it? I appreciate your help. Your original pics were what made me pick this shift ****.

I took it to a machine shop and they drilled it for free, the threads are a perfect fit but there is a lip on the shifter just below the threads that wont fit inside the ****, so you need to drill the hole bigger down *to* the threads inside the **** so that you can screw it on.

There are actually no threads in this ****. It just has a plastic core, and makes its own threads as you put it on. It took me all of 5 min. in order to get mine to fit.

I took my die-grinder with a carbide porting bit to do it , no specific size , the base just needs to be bigger a tad.

If a stock **** will, then i would think so. Is the main shaft on the SHOrt shifter larger than the threaded part?

I'm pretty sure there are threads in it, i took a light to it and saw metal down in there, also it would strip it out with how tight i put the **** on there if it was plastic.

When my brother installed the one on his car, he also cut the threads on the rod way down. He had to drill out the entire shifter in order to get it to fit. Never hit any metal, but i guess ours could be different.
