Went to my first ever event at Firebird East, which was NASA/CRA's first points event at that track since 2002 and the first ever TT points event at that track.

Da Vid:

Lo-res version, 67.5M

It was fun, the track is a riot to drive and pretty technical. I'm flat out in third gear almost all the way around, a quick downshift to 2nd at T1 and an optional (and better) drop to 2nd in the chicane. During my last session I was just figuring out that there was a much faster way through the carousel (which some hotshoe's have since confirmed), and I may wind up dropping to 2nd there as well if/when we ever go back.

A bit of automotive carnage during the day, though. A buddy ventilated the block on his ITR:

Scott motor

Also, a Focus puked oil all the way down the front straight after popping his oil cooler line. Several cars had to be towed off track throughout the day. A second Honda block (not pictured) went to the great j/y in the sky as well.

We've got a lot of folks who take and post pics at the events now:

I missed Time Attack due to the car deciding to puke water all over the grid. That's the first overheating episode since last summer, and likely due to this being the first event with the ambient temp over about 80F. Other than that things went okay. Something is up with the car, but I'm hoping nothing tragic.

Its strange. Some people seem to have big cooling issues with these cars, and other people's cars never get hot at all. No matter what I did, my 95 always ran hot on track.

Time Attack is something I'd definitely like to give try, too bad you didn't get to run it this time.

I'm the opposite. My car never over heats on the track, and on the street I think it even runs a little cool, around 165-180 on the autometer. Power steering lines over heating and bursting is a different story though...

A bunch of NJ/PA SHO guys are going to Summit Point April 25-28, I can't wait!
