I recently installed an 8 inch rockford fosgate sub in the factory JBL box. Its a very nice sub for the price. I was wondering because inside the car its not that bassy but in the trunk it is very very bassy. If I ported the box would that make a difference at all inside the car and where would I make the port hole if so? Thanks alot guys, always a help

The JBL driver and enclosure had been designed to work together. It is a sealed box. I would think for best results you should replace the driver with a similar type designed for a sealed box. A port will vent the energy to the trunk, probably not what want.

There are members on this board who have said they have created successful systems using an 8" driver in the stock box; you should look those up. Perhaps the driver you bought is not for a sealed box. I would investigate that. Also, make sure there are no leaks between the driver and box and also the opening to the interior. The stock unit has a plastic cylinder to project the sound to the interior.

Hope this helps. :)

I replaced the sub with a aftermarket box and sub(8).

I have the same problem as you. Once I open the trunk, I can hear the bass perfectly, close it and it goes away..??

I believe the sub can be used for a sealed or ported enclosure, the sub itself does have its own porthole on the bottom if that means anything
