Normaly I would think clutch, but when the car is in gear and the clutch pedal is depressed The car is smooth, and as I let off the clutch disc engages smoothly, but if I try to take it out of gear or put it in any gear while sitting still its almost impossible. There is a little noise comming from the clutch area when the clutch is engaged. would this still be symptems of a bad clutch? the pedal doesnt feel too bad either.

I experienced some of the same problems prior to my recent clutch replacement. We found where the tob had failed and started wearing a groove on the input shaft. It became apparent that the hard shifting was from a tempermental tob. The tob wasn't causing a constant problem either. Some days were good, some days were bad. What's the age on your current clutch?

The current age is unknown, probably due though. Just thought I would ask what your opinions were. You sound pretty accurate. burnout

Well, I'm just relaying my own personal experience with my clutch/tob problems. There are several issues that can/could cause such problems. Although a failing tob seems to be the most common. Unfortunately, it requires a complete teardown to fix the problem.

FWIW, I nursed my SHO along for most of a year while experiencing difficultly with shifting. I never had any slipping problems, just wasn't completely disengaging.

I don't know how my problem was related to itself-

I tore apart the front end to change the Crank Position Sensor. It took me a good long while to get everything back together right, and I drive out of the garage.

Bam- the clutch stops disengaging after 2-3 shifts. I turn around, shut the car off, ask the guys at the garage about it, get in, drive, it shifts fine a few blocks but then stops working again.

I tried a new cable, and adjusting the cable, but couldn't get it to go into 1st gear without turning the car off. 2nd and up were a little easier, but still not good.

I ordered a clutch kit and tore it apart, yes, mine was the TOB too. It was almost completely seized up! It was wearing on the fingers on the pressure plate. The disc was really messed up, too, for some crazy reason. Here are a few pictures:

Try adjusting the cable, and start saving for a clutch job. It's my guess that you'll need it in the near future.. frown
