i just got through replacing my spark plugs witht he stock motorcrafts ones since the one's i had in there were the wrong heat range and autolites. When i started the car back up the was a ton of smoke coming out of the exhaust that eventually went away. I then took the car around the block and now the car smoke more than it used to in the high rpms 4500rpm+ range. So could this just be the small amounts of oil that were in the plug wells burning off? If so how long does that usually take? or is there something else wrong? Thanks

Not good champ. You should have soaked up all of the excessive oil in there before pulling out the plugs. This oil probably contained dirt and now that is probably scratching your cylinder walls. Pray that nothing bad will happen. Most likely it will just smoke for a little and then it will go away.

If you let the oil in the plug wells drain into the cylinders when removing the plugs instead of cleaning them out first, then it will probably take a while for the oil to burn off. I've seen it take as much as a week or a couple hundred miles. You might want to add a can of Berrymans to the gas tank to help atmoize the remaining oil faster.

Hopefully as mentioned above the oil wasn't too gritty and won't do any harm.

This is what was happening with mine before ShoBOOM.

Actually, I had sucked the oil out and replaced the plugs withOUT replacing the wires, (didn't have the $$, even though they were cracked.)
I drove it a few weeks like that before the new wires came in. I installed and it drove fine, except for the smoke.

I did compression tests which seemed ok. I was going to check out the valve stem seals, but then it broke down and I didn't need to worry about it. :madflame: Rod bearing spun. But there was also super amounts of coolant in the oil and the AIR intake.

Check your oil for contamination, pull the dipstick right after driving and it's smoking- see if smoke is coming out of there.

Good luck! Hopefully yours won't have any of the problems mine did.
