erratic idle at startup and when stopping

Upon startup when cold, i.e. overnight, the car has a very erratic idle, going from 1500 rpm to about 600. It does that a couple of times then settles in to where it should be. It will hesitate once load is applied but only for a few minutes. Runs great after this until stopping sometimes. When coming to a stop, I will push the clutch in and apply the brake. The rpms will drop to about 600, very occassionally flickering the oil light, then go back to 800 or so. Does not do this all the time. The steering also seems to get tight when this occurs. Any thoughts?

It does seem to idle better at cold startup when I unplug the MAF sensor. The MAF is a new, stock unit. No codes in KOER or KOEO. The car is a 95 MTX, 148k. IAB maybe? TPS? The tight steering puzzles me too.

Idle Air Control (IAC) valve? Sounds like the classic symptoms.

Always best to run the codes, though...

ran the codes and came up with a 111 all around

sounds like an IAC. It most likely will never produce a code. Try cleaning it first. Sometimes they get gummed up.
