Hey all,

So I ended up buying that 93 Green MTX with 100K on it, and I got it home and it blows tonnes of blue out the tailpipes under load and if you blip the throttle at idle. It also rattles like a diesel.

I pulled the valve covers, and first off, the plugs were completely fouled, the plugwells had much oil in them, and the valve lash was very far out. I thought that since the car was sitting for a while, maybe the valves were sticking, so I tried some products that cleans out the engine and frees sticking valves, and also tried tranny fluid to completely wash out the engine.

I took it for a nice long spirited drive and was redlining it a couple of times, and it seemed to be getting better. It did not smoke quite as much, and it looked like things were settling down, but as I drove the knocking was not getting any better. I came to the conclusion that the motor has bad piston rings, and I would try to drive it a bit and maybe change the oil for the high milage kind, and see what happens over the next little bit. As soon as I said that to my buddy that was along for the ride, I was just babying it back to his car at the time, then I heard a bad backfire and then the motor started to rattle really bad and as soon as I put the car in neutral it stalled.

I then got it restarted and limped it back to the garage that I will be doing the motor swap. By the time I drove it there, it sounded really bad. Something let go inside the motor, I assume it was a ring.

Anyhow I just thought that I would give you the background before I go any further. I am going to take the 3.2 out of my high milage '92 to put it into the much lower milage '93.

So I am hoping to have it done over the weekend and see what happens. I have about 5 days to do it, so I think that I can get it done in time.

I will keep you posted on the progress. Wish me luck.

Good luck with the swap. thumb
It sounds like you spun a bearing in your motor. :( BTW why did you put transmission fluid in your engine shrug

Witch City, baby! Salem,
Best of luck, bro.

If you get it done in 5 days I think that's pretty damn good...maybe even a record.

This is the place to turn if, (when), you need advice/help.

Make sure to curse a great deal, and drink many beers...

That's not the first time I've heard of using ATF as an engine flush. I don't know if I'd do it myself, but I have seen others do it. Supposidly the detergency of good ATF is pretty high.

Very similar to my sob story cry . Mine stalled as well then restarted and sounded like ****.

It's not a 5 day project. At least if you've never done it before. I'm 4 days into mine and it's going VERY slow. Granted i'm only working 3 hours a day on it but my advise...take you time and photograph everything you can.

There are a few of us that is going to do this swap. I **hope** to have it done within 5 days, but I am not sure if it can be done that fast. I have done it before and did the 3.2 MTX swap, but I am not sure how fast this is going to be. I will keep you guys posted.

I used ATF for it's detergents to clean out the engine. not sure if it helped, but I will tear the blown motor apart later. I am planning on stripping the internals, cleaning it up real pretty like and turning into a glass topped coffee table.

Awesome idea, I'd love to have that table, not sure how well it would go over though...

I have heard of people using ATF for cleaning also.
