Failed Mass emissions. NOx level missed by a hair. I replaced the O2 sensors, but I don't think that will be enough. I believe NOx points to cats (?). What I'd like to know is, will pulling the spout take care of the NOx problem? Also, I am planning on replacing the rod bearings (oil light flickered twice at idle). Is it okay to put the car on the roller test? Today is the last day for the free retest. Leave it to me to wait til the last minute. Duh!
Thanks, amigos

You're right, Chris. I'm doing the bearings Sunday. I'll pay for another sticker next week.
I'm in W Springfield.

don't rule out a bad oil pressure sensor. But either way, bearings are a very good idea.

NOx would be the result of too much air.

NOX is usually an indicator of a failing cat. My mechanics at my shop said if it fails by a hair, usually removing the air filter will be just enough to get it to pass. Did you only fail for NOX?

Yup, just the NOx. The limit is 02.50 grams per mile, and my reading was 02.81. When I had the Y pipe off to do the bearings, there was only a very faint trace of the cat residue in the pipes. Has new O2 sensors on it now. I'll take the filter out, but I want to be sure when I run it thru the test again. That's why I was asking about the spout pull affecting the NOx. Thanks for your time and insight,
Bill

I honestly can't tell you whether the spout will change NOx readings, but if you are soley failing for NOx there's a very good chance your cats have meow'ed for the last time.

Pull the SPOUT. A lot of V6 cars fail nox slightly, pulling the SPOUT will let it pass. Had to do it on my 91, and my 93.
