The awd dodge charger RT.

How do we stack up? A guy at work drives one, tried to start up a convo with him...but he's a dick, so, not much luck on that.

Stock for stock, I personally think the charger is slightly faster, especially from a roll. A SHO with a tune vs an RT isn't much of race.

I think the 392's are much better competitors for us as R/Ts are pretty sluggish out of the factory. Anyways, I had a normal challenger R/T with a K&N drop in and straight pipe exhaust before the sho, and even when the sho was slightly modded (K&N cai, Magna flow cat back) it was faster than the R/T pretty much everywhere in the power band except high top end, like 130-160, but I don't think even an AWD R/T can overcome the amount of sheer torque we push right off the hit. Only one way to find out though, line it up and shave some of the attitude off him.

My SHO ran dead nuts with a 392 SRT8 Charger from 65 to 130 on the freeway. When we got off the freeway and ran them off a street light....it was a massacre. I yanked him and he let off before I got to the other crosswalk.

Always wondered how a tuned SHO would do against a stock 392 SRT. Don’t they put out something like 475hp ?

I know stock vs stock the SHO IS faster than the standard RT with the standard V8. Even the police tests with the v8 police Charger vs the Taurus police version with the SHO ecoboost the Taurus beats it in every test. Fastest 0-60, 1/4 mile etc etc

Never raced one on tune only. However tune and downpipes you will pull until about 100, then they start to make a comeback, so you better have a big gap. Lol. Lower speeds obviously work out in our favor. If they dont have a tire then it is game over for them.

A friend of mine has a stock 392 Charger and we have raced a dozen or so times, all from digs. Most on the non-methanol tune, and 2 or 3 times on my methanol tune. Non-meth, I jump him off the line (unless he has his slicks) and he only catches and passes after about 110. With a methanol tune, I get about anywhere from a half car to 1.5 cars ahead of him, and he paces me but can't reel me in. Even with methanol, his car puts down more buff horses than my SHO and his car is a few hundred pounds lighter. I've roll raced with him once against another friend of ours, on my methanol tune, and we paced each other until 130 or 140. He also spent a lot more on his car than mine, so there's tradeoffs. I have the advantage in digs unless he has his slicks, he can launch the car very well so it's always a close race.

I have never raced an AWD RT before but I assume I would put busses on them.

Possibly doing a quick drag with him tonight, getting onto the interstate. Will report back on results. Car is bone stock.

In other news, on my way in to work, a challenger passed me, slowed up, got to my window, and downshifted and took off. He clearly wanted to play, so I obliged him, somewhat. And kinda blew his doors off?

It had dual exhaust, but no badges. Is there a V6 version of that car? Engine sounded a little high pitched for a V8. But then, I know little to nothing about mopars.

So, on my way out tonight, I asked him when his break is. He asked why, I said so I can smoke him in a race, lol. He was like, oh its on!

So we go to the on ramp, which has a light, we stop, wait for the red light, and agree to go on green. I slap her in sport and wait. My first proper race with the SHO! Mind you, I don't drag race. Only been to a strip a couple times, in Bradenton, FL. I auto cross. But I got a basic understanding. BUT. I'm not about to dump it at 2,500 rpm on my trans, so this was just a shot from idle. He revved his. Even still I got him off the line, he missed the light by a 1/4 second. I'm ahead by half a car. Stays that way for a second or 2, then a shift...and I pull a little more ahead. Now I got him by a full car. Another shift, and now I can just barely see his head lights over my rear spoiler. I let off at about 120mph, and by that time, I was a good 2 lengths ahead of him.

Verdict? My car is faster. Even if I hadn't treed him off the line, his auto is a bit slower shifting than mine. With equally fast trans? That car would have kept up, woulda been a real close race.

Fun as shit, though.

Huh, I didn't know that they built one with a V8, have only seen the recent tests of the SXT AWD (V6). Looked it up, not built for long, the 2014 RT AWD shows as 370HP @ 5250, and 4450 lb. So, pretty close, I'm betting the Gen IV SHO has more torque low down because turbo, so will probably pull it at the line. The Dodge is shown to have made sixty in just under 5 so really close to the regular SHO it seems.

Can't remember (I'm a Gen II guy m'self) does the Gen IV have /any/ sort of launch control, stock? Exactly what does Sport mode do on it?
I mean, you could at least power brake it to build a tad of boost, not suggesting a neutral drop or anything. Winning is not worth a transmission....

Yeah, holding the brake is what I meant. I'm...too scared of breaking anything just yet to try a boosted launch, lol.

Putting it in sport just sharpens the trans, higher rpm shifts, etc. So far as I know, no launch control...but you kinda don't need it on an AWD. Just some left foot braking, and quick reflexes to let off on green.
