Folks,
Long story short (I had the car at a local mechanic, of which I'm beginnig to lose faith in...) but anyways, he had the dash apart troubleshooting my A/C vent actuator problems, etc.

The ebrake now does not engage while in the "P"ark position --OR "N"eutral position, untill the engine is off. Normally, I can put the parking brake on - and it automatically pops off when it goes to "D"rive.

The reverse is also the case, where the ebrake will disengage the moment I turn the ignition, prior to me pulling it out of "P"ark.

Any thoughts/solutions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

ok what? the ebrake has nothing to do with the trans or shifter. its completly by itself. the ebrake is the little pedal next to the fuse box, is that the same thing you are talking about?

ok nevermind me, i was doing some searching and found out that the ATX have a vacum function on the park brake. when the dash was pulled, it probally pulled off a vac line or a sensor didnt get pluged back it. can you hear a open vac inside the car?

thanks for the reply. i can continue and refine my search. i didn't know it was a vacuum function that caused the auto-disengage.

however i do not hear a vacuum leak, i will be digging around for sensors today in the daylight.

Yes the ATX 'E'break has a vacuum canister attached. The vac line must not be attached. I put one of them in my 89 so I can not forget to release it!
