I figured that mount would be loose :thumb:
now that its tight i can drive it again this friday if i'm in town and see what it feels like. I spent a few hours on my SHO saturday and got it to pass emissions by pulling the SPOUT connnector :D then i waxed it and it thanked me by puffing out smoke when i fired it up after waxing it  damn valve seals :madflame:

Well, I thought after tightening the bolt that was loose that it would get rid of the movement, but it still moves. So I have no idea. I think we just need to put it on the rack again.

So I guess you won't me needing my y-pipe anymore, huh? I was hoping to see what it was like to have a SHOshop pipe on mine, but oh well. Congratulations on passing emissions, maybe I'll get a chance to drive yours on Friday, hehe. Later,

Paul

Do you still have your a/c compressor on? I was looking at my parts motor and i remembered that the bracket the motor mount bolts to is the a/c bracket, and its thin and fragile especially if theres no a/c compressor bolted to it.

I havent had a chance to get under the hood of the sho between work and fixing up a taurus gl (my old car) for my sister...excessive motor movement was never observed before though...ill check it out soon.

motor mounts

I have found that the motor does indeed move about an inch upwards and forward and upwards and backwards when the engine is engaged in 1st and reverse respectively. I suppose this could account for the jerkiness when shifting. Interesting that the intake shows no signs of polishing.

Paul's car would only jump when doing it in 1st gear, reverse is ok. And you can hear and feel the engine sit down after torquing it up in 1st. major movement. I'll check my SHO tomorrow and see how much it moves...its got a reinforced front mount so it should be ok for comparison.

This evening i was looking around under the hood after finishing a brake job on the gl, I couldnt get a good look at the tranny mount because of the view being obstructed by wires and the upper radiator hose (unless I was way off in my estimation of its location) I was thinking about it more and I realize I dont have the lurchiness in fifth at all when I let the gas on and off. Not sure if this is significant, but it might have something to do with the torque that the tranny is outputting at highway speeds versus lesser speeds 30-50 in lower gears...just a thought.

First of all, I have checked my tranny mount and it appears fine with no separation of the rubber from the metal. Second, the tranny mount is easily seen if you look behind the driverside wheel. It is right there on the subframe in front of the axel. I'm told by several people that this mount rarely fails, though I thought that mine had due to the fact that both my front and rear mounts were trashed, but it seemed to have held up.

So, you're saying that you only have lurching at high speeds? I have lurchiness at low speeds especially, but even in fifth, I still have just a little. Who knows, now we're thinking it might be the A/C bracket that mounts to the front motor mount might be broken.

nahh, i have the same as you...lurchiness at slow speeds diminishing greatly at higher speeds/5th gear. I will check my ac bracket as well.

Well, that sucks that we both have the same problem, I mean it's good that it's the same so if one of us figures it out, we both will, but it sucks that it's such an annonying issue. I haven't had a chance to check my A/C bracket yet, but I will with CheckerSHO on Friday. It's wierd, I just noticed that when crusing down the road at constant throttle/constant speed and when I go over a small bump, I can actually feel the engine hopping up and down softly until it settles or I go over another bump. Imagine that there is no front mount and that only the back and tranny mount are holding the engine and tranny to the subframe, then imagine what the engine would be doing while driving. That's what it feels like.

Cool. BTW I did notice that my tranny is leaving a very small puddle where the halfshafts are leaking. Oh well, good reason to swap trannies. Oh, do you still want that Analog cluster and the headliner? The damn headliner still hasn't come in yet, but I'm going to be ****** at UPS if it doesn't come in tomorrow. Anyways, maybe we could work out a little trade. Later.
