So i contacted doug. Anyone who has had his work done, can you give me some insight on what to expect? Does he do something different to strengthen the tranny, instead of putting the same crap in as ford did? Also, has anyone had any problems with their tranny's from his work?

thanks

He is located somewhere outside Atlanta I think. Track down kaoticsho. He's got one of Doug's trannys in his S/C'd SHO and I'm sure he'd be happy to fill you in on any particulars.

Doug can be reached at: (770) 949-7191

I don't know the particulars of what he does to the tranny, all I know is the "voodoo magic" works.

I dont know what to tell you about his tranys but I do know FORD may not honor the 12/12 warranty on it, or at least it will be more difficult to get it honored. Question you have to ask is do you want to spend 1000 to 1500 dollars more for a trany? I can get a factory trany from ford with a torque converter fro about 1700, are you gonna race your car or drive it and occasionaly drive it hard? I am in your same spot I have a 93 ATX with a bad trany!!!

It goes into that LOVE HATE thing with these SHO's!!!

I don't know first hand, because I don't have one of his tranny's. From what I've heard though, is that is you do any type of racing or have a moded SHO. Then his tranny is what you want. If you can afford, shell out the extra dough for an ATX that I do believe is BULLETPROOF! As I said, if you can, do it. If you can't, well go for a FoMoCo rebuild and try and get a trans-go shift kit put in while you're at it. You won't be sorry.

They don't make a shift kit for a AXODE tranny. The only way to go is with a ****/calibration kit.
It will get more fluid to parts that usualy don't get enough, and it will make your tranny snap into gear quicker. that ruduces heat build up by almost 50%.

I had a transgo kit installed at a local tranny shop and a rebuild. My SHO is stock and it now chirps the tires in second when I'm on it.

So far no prob with the independant tranny guy in my area. So far.........

Doug uses Ford remanufactured trannies as a core then rebuilds them with the transgo kit. He then warrants them for a year.

Thank you SHOZ123,
I have been asking what the H@## DL does to his trannys and you are the first to be able to actually say it.

Every one says they have VooDoo magic and they are bullet proof. Now finaly we know what he does.
If that is all he does then any tranny guy worth a damn can do the same thing.

I had the transgo kit($42.00) installed two weeks ago and the car is awsome.
I only paid $1800.00 for the rebuild/w kit. I saw some where you have to some how get your car to Georgia and then pay over Three grand if you want a DL tranny.

I ain't got that scratch. I suggest you save your money and find a tranny guy in your area, and talk to him about what you expect.

I think all you have to do is send the trannydown to georgia, and he sends you one back. by the way, thanks to you all for the help and advice.

"Voodoo Magic" were my words. That is the way I describe what he does to the tranny. I am putting a WHOLE LOT more power through it than you or anyone else on this forum is. I am just informing everyone of a guy who builds them for $2200 and to be "bulletproof". If you don't want to spend the money for his way of doing things that is your business. However, my car is proof positive that he can back up what he claims.

bottom-line: if you found someone that can do it cheaper that is fine. It is good to have choices. I will however stay with the original.

is it 2200 from start to finish, just sending the tranny down there, or does that include taking out and putting in?

That's an awful lot for shipping! eek! I bet if he shopped around with some of the OTR haulers that he could get that closer to $150-$200 RT shipping. There's at least one place I know of that charges $59 flat round trip shipping on trannys through Forward Air.

If I was going to buy one of Doug's trannys, it would probably be cheaper to rent/borrow a car and drive the old tranny down to GA and pick up the new one -- that would also save the core charge up front.

FWIW, most tranny shops I know of charge $400-$500 labor for the removal and install of a tranny.

So basically this guy takes a reman'd FERD unit and puts a Transgo shift kit into it? I was pondering about a Jasper ATX unit with the Transgo shift kit. There is a Jasper dealer about 10 minutes away from me. eek!
