Door Pin Sticking....

I did a search with no results so I wanted to ask here....

My drivers door pin at times sticks like the door is open. It seems to do it more when it is wet so I am guessing that has something to do with it. I have a friend here locally with a 97 that has the same problem and WD40 sprayed in the hole has SO FAR made his stop. Mine on the other hand has enough WD40 in that you could drive under me and I could cure all your squeaks with no results on the door itself.

Has anyone here had the same problem?? If not are one of you guys with the Factory Service Manual able to at least give me some kind of pic showing exactly where it is?? It is not the "typical" visable pin that is seen from the outside.

If I understood you correctly your "Door Open" light stays on which makes your dome light stay on and the car honks 2x's at you like there is something open. Is that correct? If so, then I've got the EXACT same problem. It comes and goes every once in a while. It is VERY annoying!! I've done the same thing (sprayed WD40 in all 4 doors and it didn't help). It will just go away after a while. I heard that someone sprayed compressed air in there and got good results.

If I knew what I was in for when I took the door panel off I would go ahead and go to work on finding and fixing or replacing the switch. Util then I'll see if anyone else has a remedy for it and I will let you know ASAP.

It is a MAJOR pain in the butt when you have an aftermarket alarm as well because it will sense that the door has been opened sometimes and the alarm will go off. Not mention that my remote start has a "no door open" safety feature before it starts. frown

The switch is part of the latch assy. in the door. All Fords that have these have this problem. Our F250SD at work does the same thing. I have used contact cleaner and followed up with WD40 with good results. You need to spray it right into the latch, and don't be shy with it. When our 97 first started doing this, I had to really douche it down, and I sprayed some in the lock cylinder as well. This has worked on every Ford that I know of with this problem, so if it doesn't solve yours, I would recommend replacing the latch.

Do you have a warranty on your SHO? If so, check and see if they will cover it. I doubt it, but it is worth checking on.

When that happened in my 97TR, I happened to be at Paul's. He sprayed all four doors and slammed the sh&& outta them. It worked. It's a common problem and ya gotta just keep spraying and slammin until either the door falls off or the light goes out!! thumbs_u

FWIW, WD-40 is really a water dispersent not a lubricant. Sure, it will break loose sticky things and will help prevent rust...but thats about it. If you really want to stop the thing from sticking, use any oil, parafin or Teflon based lubricants which will last longer! Sprayed mine once with a teflon based lubricant and hasn't happened again. thumbs_u
