Anyone have any idea why my door ajar dummy light won't go out?

I'm no mechanic but I'm very certain my doors aren't actually open, so it's just mocking me in it's illuminated arrogance.

Nothing has happened in the past few days to cause it to come on (ie: I haven't messed with the electrical system).
I tried resetting the computer but no dice.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

There are switches inside the doors on the latch (not the post switch for the dome lights) that control the door ajar light and have a tendency to fail. It could be any of the four doors, but I'd wager it's the one in the driver door. If you roll down the window all the way and pry apart the whiskers, you can beam a flashlight in there and see the switch (it has one wire, a black one with an orange stripe) mounted to the top of the latch mechanism.

You can try dousing it in some contact cleaner to see if that will clear the light. I couldn't get mine to clear, so I just ended up clipping the wire until I have occasion to open up the door and replace the switch.

I actually juse delt with the same problem.

I had an idea what door it was and unscrewed the latch. as soon as the latch wasn't touching the door (grounding it), the light went out.

I remedied it by unplugging the wire that goes into the latch.

Its nice not to have any idiot lights when you are driving.

well, as long as we're talking band-aid solutions, i just put a dead light bulb in the cluster when mine wouldn't go out... not the proper fix, but like you said mike, it's usually pretty clear that a door is open without the dummy light... thumbs_u
