Hey all. Real quick question. As I was sitting staring at my updated gen 3 screensaver last night I saw the picture of the taillight on Willie Orput's car. He has a silver car that has some kind of covering over the portion of the taillight that isnt functional. It body colored so it matches the car and I think it looks sharp as ****.

Is he a member here? If not does anybody know him?

I was just really curious what he did to the tail light to get that look. If someone know, or if Willie is a member I would sure love to hear what he did to get that look.

Thanks a bunch

no I don't know him personally, but I must say this is something I have been impressed with also.

I'm pretty cautious about mods though so if I am not 100% I can do it AND it will come out 100% pro, then I won't attempt it at all

I have seen the taillight mod done on 2 other Gen IIIs and I agree its pretty sharp

Willie when you read this, or someone else in the know, I think this would make one **** of a write-up for others wanting to try their hand at it. is it a simple tape/mask off job? do you get Ford silver in an aerosol can or do you know someone that owns a body shop that does this for you ?

:thumb: great question as I have wanted to know how this is done myself, even if I choose not to do it in the end

I know Ashley (Firespirit) has this on her 97' Vulcan.

All you do is remove the housings, clean the lenses with rubbing alcohol, mask off the areas you don't want painted, and get the appropriate color duplicolor paint. After you've put on several thin coats, remove the masking tape, put on a couple of layers of clear and you're golden.

Hahaha.... a little fun w/paint.
Snag up some extra peices and give it a go. The prep work is most important.
Here`s what I did to mine.

That looks really good! Interesting design. I have bulls in my tail lights, but only when they're lit up.

Duplicolor Cherry red is a dead ringer for the TR color. AutoZone may have 2 cans if you're lucky.

I guess my McAuto stores are just under/badly stocked b/c every time I looked they didn't have many Ford colors in spray cans, and didn't seem to know how to help me order any, lol. guess I'll just have to drive to the rich part of town to find what I need ;)

learned something new I wanted to share.

the reason I couldn't find Performance White in a spray can at AutoZone, Advance or NAPA is Duplicolor doesn't make it, according to the reference catalog at NAPA. they ofcourse have the smaller, ballpoint and brush bottle. they have some of the other Ford colors represented in spray though.

paintscratch website is a good bet, but it is $25 / can

the Duplicolor matte black I bought on the other hand, was $4.99.

might have some luck getting a store equipped to do so mix up the right color though, haven't tried that route yet

Oreilly Automotive usually has one store in a region that can make rattle cans to any paint code you have.

Performance white is $21.00 a can and is more than enough to do the tail light mod.

I did a SHO spoiler with less than one can also.
