The Borbet type E 17x8" rims had a 40mm offset. They weighed about 21.5 to 22.0 lbs each, so they were fairly light for a cast rim. They were actaully a Volvo fitment, so the hub bore has slightly larger than the Taurus. You just had to careful when you torqued the lug nuts – I used to do it in stages to make sure they were staying lug centric. On a Gen II car they would be fine in the rear with a 235/45-17 tire, but with a 245/45-17 tire, I had to use a 2.5mm thick wheel spacer to keep the inside tire side wall off the stock '95 strut housing. But with the spacer the outside tread shoulder got very close to the fender lip – not a problem with an empty back seat, but put some weight in the car and they would rub. On the front the 245/45-17 tires sort of looked like they stuck out of the fender wells. With say a 225/50-17 tire size, none of this would be an issue.
Not sure how they would work on a Gen I car.
I first installed these on my car back in May 2001. They fit over the 13" Cobra front brake setup with plenty of clearance. I loved the look of the wide machined lip and the deep offset spokes – they made the car look like it was RWD, sort of a looked like the older Impala SS. I had to sell my set last year when I went with the 13" C5/C6 Corvette front brake setup. They would not fit over the wider 1.25" rotors and the larger C5/C6 pin drive PBR calipers. I now have two sets of the TD PR 1.2 rims from Josh.
