I thought shoshop was great from having dealt with them before but I called to get a reman caliper and was first quoted $89, with a $60 core charge. Not understanding core charges fully, I was told that it was $89 minus core charge and thus $29 with refund, so I ordered it and some other stuff. They said it would be like a week because they were out of stock. I then got to thinking and the total didn't add up right so I called back the next day to inquire, and I cancelled the caliper order because I realized it was $89 plus core, and of course I got charged a 20% restocking fee because they already had the part boxed up and ready to ship the next day.....even though they were out of stock supposedly. Ah the woes of ordering parts.

Many people do not understand what a core charge is. The core charge is on top of the sale price. You get the core charge back when you send in your "core". If you do not send in your core, then you pay both prices. Oh... well, sorry to hear about the restocking fee.

Maybe Tom will refund that restocking fee, since that seems like yet another availability lie from the SS.

FWIW, they are between 20-40 dollars from AutoZone and RockAuto.com with a core.

Yea the cheapest I could find them around here was $70. Kind of peeved because the guy at shoshop told me it would only be $29 after the core was returned, but I should've known better anyway.

Since the item was never in fact shipped, I believe the restocking charge is inappropriate, I'm wonering if it might even violate interstate commerce laws.

In any case, you should dispute the charge with your credit card company. I just reviewed the Terms & Conditions on their website http://www.shoshop.com/Policies.htm , and NOWHERE does it mention a 'restocking' charge for a cancelled order, ONLY for a non-defective return.

These people are getting increasingly ridiculous on a daily basis. What a shame...

Where in ME are you? There are numerous AutoZone and Advance Auto stores in ME and NH, you should be able to find the calipers for around $30 each plus core there (plus, core returns at a local auto parts store are much easier than mail-order).

I agree,just call your CC company and tell them to stop a charge.I`ve done it a very few times(bad hotel room,etc),and have never had any problems or had to pay.The CC company can tell if you got ripped off or not.This is BS,get your 20% back.

I just got a pair of reman'd calipers "brand new" in the box (A1 Cardone) off ebay for $30 shipped. NO core, no BS. I was gonna buy em from Rock Auto, but I didn't want to deal with shipping a core back, AZ or Advance has the same part and they ar local. I used rock auto's webside to write down all the part numbers for calipers that fit Taurii, then just waited around on ebay for a week or so. I found a pai that were listed under a Mercury Cougar (older body style) and they are the same part numbers. So I saw that the auction had ended and I emailed the seller an offer. Boom she jumped on it and I have nice fresh calipers on the way to get powder coated.
