Between '89-'95, how many different hubs are there? Which hub do people like to upgrade to if they have a '89 and why?

There are 3 different knuckles. 89, 90-93 and 94-95.

Almost everyone goes for the 94-95 knuckle as you can go for any brake upgrade like the 11.6" or 13" brakes.

I concur 100% as long as were talking about knuckles (AKA spindles) and NOT hubs.

Yeah, knuckles changed, hubs did not, assuming we're talking about the front. There are differences in the rear.

and the 96+ knuckles are different as well - one of the many advantages of the Gen3 subframe swap is that you get front knuckles where the bearings are a bolt-in affair, not a press-in deal.

How can I tell what I have? I had to change my. Pads and they weren't for my year. All I know is that my pads are smaller than the '89.

So let me get this straight. There are 3 different knuckles (spindles) but the hubs stay the same? So If I wanna change the bearings in them, then I can ask for a hub assembly kit for an '89 even though I have a '94-'95 knuckle, correct?

no. if memory serves me correctly, 89s had a hub that is used on 89 only. talking hub, not knuckle or spindle. the ridge that centers the disk is different on an 89. the actual bearing is the same on all from 89 thru 95. talking about the fronts.

If your car has the "96 brake upgrade", the rotors on it should measure 11.6". It will have the 94-95 knuckle, required for that upgrade, and the caliper brackets will have the letters FN74 cast into them. IIRC, the pads will have "598" in the PN, lookup pads for a 2001-2005 Sable.

If it has the 94-95 knuckle, but was not upgraded to the 96 brake configuration, the rotors will be 10.9".

But most '94-'95 have abs right? If thats true, then I don't know how the previous owner upgraded the spindles.

iirc, the LX models all had abs, but on the GL it was an option. all SHO models had the abs in 94-95.

if you have a knuckle w/ abs and you don't have abs on your 89, you just leave out the sensor.

Don't matter what cv joints go with it either...abs ridges and non-abs ridges? They'll fit on both and vice versa?
