Well, I spent some of my day yesterday mounting a B&M 24k stacked plate tranny cooler behind my stock cooler and on my A/C condenser. I successfully finished, correctly routed all the fluid lines and took it for a successful test drive with no leaks. When I was finished I looked at the picture that came with it and found that I may have mounted the cooler upside-down. In the picture the inlet and outlet tubes are on the top of the cooler pointing up. I mounted them on the bottom pointing down. I have driven it 20+ miles with no noticeable problems but I don't know if that cooler is completely filling with fluid or if it is doing its job properly since it is mounted upside-down. So, is it fine how it is now? Has anybody else ever mounted it with the inlet/outlet tubes on the bottom? Lastly do I need to tear it all apart and flip it over in order for it to properly function?
Thanx, Doug

IMHO you should be fine... But the cooler being upside down will take a while to fill it. Remember that the cooler works like a radiator, it has 1 line(starting at inlet) going through it till it meets up with the outlet. The problem is that fluid will have to be ran through constantly and it might drain out(into the pan again) everytime you stop and park it for long periods of time. Once the tranny runs for a minute it will cycle back through it. Check the fluid in the tranny quite often for a while(Every 50 or so miles). Then check it every oil change...

FWIW I personally would change it, but that's me "The Perfectionist"...

The cooler is a stacked plate, so it functions just like a radiator, but it does not have one continual line that goes through it. But, yea I was basically thinking that same thing that the fluid would just drain out over time. Also, that being upside down I don't know if the cooler will even completely fill up. So, I have new mounting brackets on order from summit, as the brackets are like zip-ties one use and they are done. When those come in I will be pulling everything apart to flip it over.

....the fluid in the tranny is only 4-5k old, their is no reason to change it. Thanx,

Doug

My mistake!!! I thought that it only had 1 line, I guess I was wrong :( I hate being wrong... Anyway, it probably is a good idea to change that.

Good luck,
Scott

I hate being wrong to, but it is only when we are wrong that we learn. It isn't a bad thing to be wrong once, it is only bad to be wrong twice about the same thing. As in my situation, I will never rush through a job and mount a cooler upside-down again..... Just a little food for thought.

That has to be one of the most intelligent things I've heard year!!! I agree though(on all accounts)!!! If you rush a job, odds are you will mess something up.
