did i buy a lemon

ok... after years of gawking at my neighbors 92 red sho i decided i was going to find one to call my own.. i found a 93 green mtx sho with 130000 miles and what i though to have few defects... but know that all is changing.

first i have this wierd knocking niose happening when the car is in nutrual.. but then i put it into first and it goes away also goes away when i depress the clutch....

next.. it sometimes wont start ont he first try.. it sound like it wants to go but doesnt... but then i try it a second time and it fires right up but slowly builds rpm like it is gonna die but catches itself... also noticed that it olny does this after i have driven it without letting it warm up....

next... fuel pressure light goes on everyonce in a while... like every two week... but it doest fully go on... it doesnt really even flash on.... it is going on but almost not enough.... you have to constintly watch it or you just wont see it...

next... from what i know the stck exaust has an area with a spring or something like that... not on mine, no suck thing.... there is this weird welded on sleeve thingy... is this a common thing for sho'ers or is this some ghetto rig crap.. oh and the gasket at this point keeps on going

next... my abs.. oh what the ****.... it goes off when it isnt needed... no abs lights go on... also will go off when going slow in 1st gear

i know this is alot but some one please help..

fuel pressure light?

If what you meant is the oil pressure light , replace the rod bearing ASAP. Before it spins a bearing.
Might be connected with your knocking.

The knocking could also be a bad TOB...

For the hard starting , test the fuel pressure , come back at us with a number :)

Exhaust issue. Post pics.

I think with the exhaust he may be talking about a flex pipe as opposed to the catback/ypipe ******....:shrug: Pics would be helpful.

And yeah the knocking and oil light (if in fact the oil light) I think points to the rod bearings definitely. I second the ASAP repair on that one.

The knocking you hear can most certainly be attributed to a bad TOB...Or a unproperly Re-Surfaced Flywheel... Dont ask me how I know about the second one :biggrin:

What is the diameter of the flex pipe? Not the inner diameter but the diameter where it is welded to the catback? Sorry for using your thread.

abs problem sounds simular to my '93 atx that I repaired today.
Go under the hood, look for the power distribution box (fuse box) located on the driver's side at the fire wall. On the cover you should note the location of a green 30A fuse for the abs, pull it out. This will cause your abs dash light to come on (abs is now disabled) drive the car checking for the symtoms you discribed in your post. If you have NONE of those symtoms check the abs sensor rings front and rear. A cracked ring will cause the discribed problems without throwing a light. (my driver's side front was cracked)
It is possible to replace just the ring, however in my case I decided to replace the axle due to the mileage on the car. Hope this helps some, good luck with it, don't give up.:thumb:

Folk's usually refer to a "new" car as being a lemon. In 1988 when the SHO was introduced it was. A car thats 13+ yrs old with 130000 rounds on it has other words that come to mind.
