Just right of the ignition and left of the radio, there is a light that comes on when I turn the car on. Then goes out after I start the car. The, I guess face plate?, for it is missing so I do not know what the light is for. While taking my brother to work this morning, the light came on for a bit, went off and flashed twice, and stayed on a little bit longer. Did that for the duration of the 7 mile drive. Any ideas? Planning a trip, hopefully this weekend, and do not want to break down. Thanks for any and all help. On a 89 SHO.

The light you refer to is the Check Engine Light on an '89. The rest of the lights are in the instrument cluster, this one is by itself in an upright rectangular housing to the left of the radio. The CEL could be any number of problems but it records a fault code in your computer that you can check yourself. The instructions are on SHOtimes.com. I'm no big expert on these things though so once you find out what it is, you can seek further advice.

There is only one light there. Oil light is in the instrument cluster, as well as the check engine light, door ajar.

In the 89 there is only one light there. It's for the check engine. There is also the antenna button if you have the option for that. Looks like you might be getting a code 22 which is....BP out of self-test range.
