Detroit Axle Brakes

Against my better judgement and in light of certain financial woes I am having to yet again put off R1 concepts drilled and slotted kit (doesnt help that the price hiked another hundred bucks) I was looking at their factory replacement level brakes with ceramic pads but I see Detroit Axle (amazon) has kits for even cheaper. now I am a big believer in you get what you pay for, and Ive had customer service issues with Detroit Axle in the past, but their parts have been fine. my question is has anyone actually tried them on our cars? its a cheap option and if it performs well then maybe Ill go that way until I can put out some more fires, but the brake squeal has got to go I cant live with it anymore.

I put the Detroit Axle front rotors on my car sometime before I sold it. Looking back I used the ceramic pads that came with the kit as well. I had zero issues with them.

Maybe @Zpak can shed some light on how they are performing.

How much is the kit? FWIW, I've had good luck with the O'Reilly rotors and the PI pads. No squeal, good performance but take a bit to get bedded in.

Right now it's around $260 for drilled and slotted front and rear with pads. Based on what I'm seeing here I think it's a fair compromise.

Other than the cool factor, drilled rotors, that are not designed from the start to be drilled, will crack under moderate to hard use. Slotted rotors are OK. IMHO.

Can confirm. The local shop I use here in north Houston recommended staying away from drilled rotors, stock with slotted.

@Texas Marauder so Detroit doesn't offer just slotted, they have a drilled and slotted or a OE style (smooth). I am confused when you say "not designed to be drilled" if you mean buying already drilled rotors based on OE or drilling them myself, assuming you mean cheapo rotors already drilled I should avoid the drilled and slotted option based on my driving. also moderate to hard use meaning seeing track time or driving like an a$$hole (I am more of the latter since I don't get to do any autocross or anything).

I have yet to experience brake fade with my car if that tells you how I drive, but that would also mean I probably wouldn't benefit from a drilled rotor anyway, as you said just the cool factor.

@SM105K and @FREAK_SHO did either of you run the drilled and slotted Detroit's specifically? I drive my cars hard but I have never had a rotor crack so there's room for improvement. my plan is to move on to better brakes when financially able to, but I don't want to be replacing parts in 6 months or **** myself in the mean time.

Unless you are tracking the car I'd stick with the OE style blank rotors and get better pads.

I had them on the car for almost a year before I sold it. IIRC there wasn't any abnormal pad wear, or cracks in the rotors.

An example of designed to be drilled would be certain Porsches that come from the factory with drilled rotors. The cooling vanes and drilled holes work together to cool the rotor. I doubt that any aftermarket manufacturer redesigns a rotor with drilling in mind.

Zero issues with the plain blanks or the drilled/slotted using the PP Pads. Car was driven, like we all drive them.
