Custom Intake

Hope that none of you tried this already and had problems. I removed the air restrictor from the fender. Next what I did was run a heat resistant tube from an opening in the lower front bumper (using the top of a leaf blower as a scoop), directly into my cone filter. I did this hoping that cold air would rush into the cone, causing a forced induction effect, and thus creating a ram air affect. The next thing im going to do is enclose my cone in an air tight passage so that it is truly ram air and forced induction. I will be posting pics later, but what does everyone think?

Sounds like a pretty nice way to do it....but would u really get a "ram air" design if you used an open cone filter because the air that the engine isn't drawing in will just go around it....and not being "forced" into the engine but at least cooling the engine somewhat.

Also how does the open cone design help the engine breath? I'm running the panel filter and it made a bit of diff.

From what I have read, the speeds required to actually make a ram air effect work, even on a very well designed intake system, are pretty much above that at which SHOs tend to travel, so I do not think you will get much from that aspect. However, making a large amount of cool air available for the normal system to pull in certainly will have a major positive effect. Somewhere on the V8SHO site are the numbers on what air volume the engine can use vs. what it can bring in with the stock intake sax, and it can use around 3x as much as it gets. So anything like that will help, so long as the incoming air stream is kept cool. Best of luck with it.
