After installing a new serpintine belt I notice the crank pulley seemed to be pushed in rather far and the belt would not align properly. Something just did not look right. I looked at the pictures og how the crank pulley was supposed to look and found that mine was on backwords ( must of happened when we replaced the CPS). Anyway I took the crank pulley off and reversed it and now when I try to tighten the bolt the crank pulley goes so far in it is toching the timing belt. I can't get 125 on the bolt without this happening. I don't now what the heck has happened please help!!!

There's supposed to be a washer-shaped piece that slips over the crankshaft, located between the timing belt sprocket and the crank pulley. That washer keeps the belt properly located on the timing sprocket, and should definitely keep the crank pulley from getting anywhere near the timing belt.

Does yours have the washer installed? You may have forgotten to put it back on when you replaced the crank pos sensor. Or maybe it's installed backwards? I think it's dished, with the dish side pointing outward. Mine had marks rubbed into it from the timing gear that made it easy to remember which way to put it back on.

Even without the washer, I don't understand how the crank pulley could get into the timing belt.. the pulley should run into the timing sprocket before it touches the belt. (I think).

Can you post some pics?

The washer shaped peace is in place and I double checked that is facing the right direction. As I tighten the bolt it is definently hitting the timing belt and the crank pulley does not look like it is even half way on? I don't have any pictures yet but I will try to get some..:omg:

With the belt guide washer in place you cannot see the timing belt though the crankshaft hole in the lower timing belt cover. The installation of the parts on the crankshaft from the front oil seal outward, should be as follows.

1. Crankshaft timing belt sprocket with the shutter vanes for the CPS toward the block. That shutter vane disk serves as the alignment device for the engine side of the timing belt sprocket. Note the smooth radius of the edge on the belt side.

2. Timing belt guide washer with the flare turned away from the belt (toward the passenger side of the car). This guide helps keep the belt trapped on the lower sprocket as the idler/tensioner pulleys and camshaft sprockets do not have alignment capability.

3. Lower timing belt cover. (If yours isn't on, put it on. Those covers protect the belt and pulleys from all the road grit that flies around down there.)

4. Crankshaft damper with the largest, or only serpentine pulley outboard from the engine block.
