I had to take the car yesterday (for an urgent trip) and the car didn't want to start...

I turned the key and cranked all the times (many) but it made no fire (at least, no combustion/explosion was felt). It finally starts after many cranks and after that, some second of rest.

I had some similar but less problematics behaviors before : I crank the car, which it seems to starts (some explosions), I let the key return at on, but the engine stall. After that the engine is more difficult to start. like it received too much fuel.

Could it be the injectors that are leaking on cylinders and the engine has too much fuel to fire ?

(Crank and Cam sensor, spark plugs, coils are almost news.)

The trans range sensor (TRS) is going away (I had problem with last summer) but when it become stubborn, the car will not crank.

Thanks guys,

Redo the ground connection at the firewall next to the computer.

Long crank can be cam position sensor beginning to fail. Cam position sensor only for starting to verify position of timing vs 180 degrees off. If cam sensor completely fails, crank sensor takes over and throws random sparks at 0 degrees and 180 degrees = car will eventually catch and computer will know how to control timing.
Once motor starts, cam sensor is not used anymore. But when starting if cam sensor is SOMETIMES making a signal and SOMETIMES not, then starting goes a lot crazy.
Try unplugging cam sensor and see if starting at least becomes consistent.

Thanks also Eric. (You're fast !)

I will check these too. :)

The next time I will also try the bad TRS start trick : put the car in N (with brake) and crank. It will be more gentle for my starter... It could confirm the problem.
