Would someone please describe what changes need be performed to retrofit an ATX cooling fan and shroud assembly into a MTX?

Are the mounting points the same? Hookup {plug}?

TIA

I don't know if the mounting points are the same, but you will have to relocate the coolant overflow to a different location. Most people when doing this job retrofit the Gen 2 ATX overflow bottle. Other things that could possibly be worked around but are best to replace are: battery tray, power steering reservior (bracket or just the bottle itself I'm not sure).

I don't think the connectors for the fan to wiring harness are the same either since the ATX dual fan is going to have 2 powers and 2 grounds for the dual fans. The wiring for a 3.0 only accomodates one fan hot and ground. In the past people have wired in a separate switch that they can manually activate both fans from the cabin. Some have spliced into the primary power for the first fan that also kicks the second fan on at the same time, and some have had the first fan run as normal and manually kick the second fan on with a manual switch. I believe Tom W. had a dial type switch in his car where he could actually adjust the fan speed manually which was very slick IMO.

Powering of the fans cannot be accomplished by swapping out the IRCM because the IRCMs are totally different in what they control. ie: fuel pump, computer, etc. Some of the controls are the same but others are not and you can do serious damage other things by doing that. (unless you rewire everything.)

Thank you Beth, I've found a replacement unit from a MTX, salvaged the fan motor from my 95 so I should be able to get this sorted out. I was just thinking there are surely more ATX fan units out there than MTX and I should figure out how to perform the retrofit.

I'll study these links and hopefully be able to do this if necessary.
